Why does everyone put their MSD box's under the hood of the car??I would think the heat from the eng comp wouldn't help and getting wet also.I put mine under the dash[took out the a/c-heater box]on the pass side.

I can relate I put mine under the dash also. Made a sheet alum mount for it and bolted it to my heater box. At idle you can hear it working.

My first lemans had the msd 5 box up there and it was fine.

A friend of mine mounted his up front on the right side of the vehicle in the pocket where a battery would be on a Chevelle type "A-Body"

He had a nice supply of air coming off the fan there.

It was mounted to the inner fender with isolators.

I know heat ='s resistance for electronics' so mounting under the hood can't be the ideal enviroment. I wanted to mount mine on front side of core support but wire leads were two feet to short. Mounted it in area where battery used to be instead. No problems so far but it is strip only car. On a street car continious underhood temps could be detrimental to MSD in the long run. JMO
On second thought I would rather have it mounted inside now that heater has been removed. That's probablly where I will mount my new 6AL-plus. Be easier to adjust micro-pots....

I had an MSD 6-AL mounted on the inner fender of an old Jeep CJ-5. I ran it through the mud, deep water, dirt, dust, etc.... and never had a bit of trouble. I live in Florida and most of the time the under hood temps ran 130* +++

Of course, inside would be much better for it.

I had a 6L mounted to the firewall of my 76 TA. It only lasted about 1 1/2 to 2 years before it died. I don't know if it's demise was heat related, but underhood probably isn't the ideal environment for it. I took it all out and went back to the HEI.

I put mine under the dash on the driver side. Pain to get to but dry and I like the stealth aspect of it hidden

I put mine in a box on the shelf in the garage and my car starts and runs the same as it did with a 6al

I mount them inside too, with isolators, on the heater box with a plate...

These boxes are obviously durable, as they have survived underhood for more than 40,000 miles and five years on my a/c equipped GTO and GP. Useage includes summer cross-country trips thru Needles CA where the temps exceeded 114 degrees , extended idling on the SoCal freeways, and hot-lapping @ local strips.

My 6AL is under the dash , mounted to the back of the glove box since 98 and runnin stong .

About 9000 street miles and about 100 passes @ the strip, no hiccups, problems or worries.

Just like windchill, dry heat/wet heat dosen't affect ambient temperature. 130 degress is 130 degrees regardless to humidity.

After living in the Arizona desert for many years myself, I think Diddly's comment is made in jest, as residents from this area minimize the high temps by stating "but it's dry heat" meaning low humidity. 114 dry degrees is still frickin' hot.

I like where you guys mounted the MSD box. I can "hear" mine and it is mounted in the engine compartment. Do you guys hear it or am I grounded somewhere??
