Dryer sheets work very well. Just tuck or tie them in the suspect areas. Works great for you outdoor BBQ grill too.

That's actually a good question. They are different. I live in the country and the mice are not interested much at all in baited traps. They come in for warmth and bring their own food. A pile of acorn shells in a corner is a sure sign.
The country mice are impossible to fool with poison...at least down here in the south with our relatively mild winters where real food is available. Best I've found is the sticky traps placed along known paths.
Mothballs do work to keep them out of cars.

If they can get their head in, they can get in.. That means they could probably get in drain holes.
I actually had a mouse run from under the seat and up the floorboard next to the gas pedal while I was driving! Nearly scared the sh!+ out of me.
Soon as I got home, I spread a newspaper on the floor with a baited trap on it. Got him within and hour.
Unusual as most of the mice out where I live are hard to catch with a trap.
