I don't know what the cv head is capable of, but bore limited with longer stroke in the Pontiac format hp per cube will go down. Just because someone is beating their chest with a high hp per cube with a bigger bore than stroke, does not mean they will maintain that level as the stroke goes up. |

Didnt you pull the cv's in favor of Picketts high port setup? Did it gain? How come when you sold your motor you had to put the cv's back on to sell it? (What I heard anyway). You had acheived mid 9's* on pump gas <10.5 compression NA at 3550 511" CI with a cam intended for a point + more compression and N2O use.(High 9's when you had it choked with small tube headers.) (*unless you lied to me) Not bad for a street car that actually could/did go some street/highway miles. Not bad for a basically bolt together combo without extensive porting. I do recall you had someone unfamiliar with these heads touch them up lightly. I took your word for it, even kept your request to "try not to say anything".(till now) No extensive dyno time, just track time at not best conditions tracks. And you made good numbers without using one of the best chassis shops around. Considering the nature of the build, there is nothing wrong with the results you acheived. Yet you seemed embarrassed. I'm thinking the CV camp would have had that rubbed in our faces if you had gone faster. Not just any head, Picketts "went fast" heads(maybe intake and cam too?) IMO that CV combo could easily and affordably be duplicated by most anyone. Acheivable with other heads? YES! But didnt happen when YOU changed heads did it? You expected it to pick up notably or you wouldnt have tried other heads. Apparently that discouraged you enough to try and sell the 511 with the Pickett heads... but ended up needin to put the cv's back on to sell it. Why would that be? Oh yeah the Pickett heads slowed you down. Info from you never came easy because you never wanted to get caught up in the politics of all this. I dont fault you for that sentiment. Yes Jeff there is miles between we will and we did. You DID... and I think you got impatient wanting to do more. Like "try these Hi port heads, you will go faster". How'd that work out for you? |

Bruce you have no reason to speculate postulate or ruminate on my decision. Fwiw, I thank you again for your previous help.
now as you have brought it up. The under cammed, 70 cfm less.hi ports ran within .1 of the cvs. I DID the test for my own knowledge. I Paid ALL the expenses. The gentleman that wanted my motor, wanted the cvs. I gave the choice. He received a strong powerful motor. He would have received the same powerful I motor if he wanted the hi port package. I PROVED both were capable. My reasons for selling are my own. I OWNED them and accomplished something to my knowledge unduplicated by any other cv car. Mjm has a great ride but.he had marcella in those ports. You Bruce, are a great friend and champion for your friends and the cv head. However your fervor borders on unsubstantiated faith rather than proven facts. You and the 'others' did Jim no benefit. I was never embarrassed with my results, I was appalled I was being associated with a circus side show. I removed myself.from the fray, at a large finacial cost to make the change. How invested are you? Understand you have your issues, so does everyone. You make your decisions I'll make mine.

Do you have flow sheets? What did the Hi Ports flow and what did the CV-1's flow? Stan

So as the stroke increases your ci you do not multply the ci by 2.4 to get the HP per ci? ![]() Stan

I dont really care what head anybody runs... I'm going to be playin with APD ported D ports till I can find the right set of cv's. Do you think any of us like being the "circus side show"? Who started it and continues to perpetuate it? Do you think I enjoyed your neighbors twist on everything? Should everybody just sit back and let someone tell lies... worse yet those believing and repeating the same nonsense? Do you think we appreciated someone in our own camp with bold faith in the product making projections we dont know we can keep? Closest I've come is the word potential. I've tried very hard to point out facts about the heads. I took the time and travel to physically investigate CV heads and their capabilities. A small investment. But worth it. I still plan on obtaining a set. |
