I am going to be rebuilding my first dominator carb and was told it was a 1050cfm. I looked up the number L80186 and said it was a 750cfm. I read that the boosters can be changed to create a 1050. Can anyone tell me by looking visually if the boosters look 1050? How can I tell if this is a 2 circuit or 3? What rebuild kits do you guys like to use?

If your using the Carb mainly for racing and the car set up lets the motor during shifts drop out of the converter ( very bottom of the power band ) then your better off with a 2 circuit Carb.

Normally the 3 circuit carbs would have threaded in Air Bleeds (6 on the Primary Side and 6 on the Secondary Side with a 3 circuit carb. With a 2 Circuit carb you will have 4 Air Bleeds that are threaded for brass jets. But the easiest way to check for 2 circuit vs 3 circuit carbs is to open the throttles completely (and by looking thru the bottom of the carb) look for 4 little brass pipes. (One in each bore) cut off at an angle above the Transfer Slots. The deal is you have to look in both places as some carbs have been modded from 3 circuit to 2 circuit and the builder left the brass angled tubes in the bores. If it is a true 3 circuit carb all 6 spots on each side will have a air bleed with an opening you can put a small drill bit thru. Again, this is a carb question not a race car question so I am answering the post. Tom V.

You can turn the 750 into a 1050. Some skirts you can remove to get it done I believe. Call Performance Carb and Speed. 909-673-1180. He can explain it all to you.
Its 375$ to have him set up your carb IF you have the right metering blocks. They are another 200$ if you need to buy them. He can turn a 3 circuit into a 2 circuit if thats what you want. Bought the parts from him to get one done for me. Nothing wrong with learning and doing it yourself if you can. Most of us are not after every single HP available and you can get close doing it yourself. |

The booster will have a skirt at the bottom of the OD. You can carefully remove the skirt and turn it into a 1050. I can't tell from the picture you posted but take a close up and I'm sure we can ID them.

My buddy runs the dyno at Book. They build nice carbs and some screaming high RPM engines!

They look like the 1050 boosters also. Should be a good carburetor for you. Save all the old gaskets and make sure they match up with the new ones.... Dominator are a pretty simple carb to rebuild.

Agree, Jeff has modded a bunch of the dominator style carbs over the years.

I will also say that Jeff did a great job on my 1050. Converted it from 3 circuit to 2. If you decide not to do the work yourself he is a great resource.

I got a couple metering plates from BLP to convert mine to a 2 circuit. They set everything up and drilled the angle passage for me as well. Just a matter of swapping those and that's it. was under 150 for everything.

Thanks for all the builder suggestions but I think im going to tackle it myself. The carb runs pretty good on the car it just looks really nasty, so im really wondering of I should mess with it...ya know how those things go. Anyone ever use the AED rebuild kit?

I think a interesting dyno challenge would a carburetor one with a Pontiac. Fuel curve is different. Get one from Book, Brasswell, Cubic ect and show who is the best on a high end Pontiac test mule.

Why do you think Pontiacs have a different fuel curve?
