Mike,

I believe the GTO guy you talked to should know if his dad bought a new stick shift car in 71 or not, my book lists a 1971 455(L-75) "WJ" code 325HP stick engine for GPs & GTOs with a block casting # of 485428. I'm not wanting to start anything on here just give the info I have on the subject. Just because I've never seen one dosen't mean it does not exist, just my two cents!

Hi guys,

I wasn't aware this thread was still going on.

The 69 GP with the 3-spd is a model J. I believe that the power discs were standard on SJ, but optional on the Model Js.

I don't think any manual tranny SSJs were built. I got into this argument with a 71 GTO owner who swore his dad bought a 71 GTO 455 D-port 4-spd new.

If you look in the factory service manuals and all several of the reference books, you'll find that there is no engine code listed for the 455 D-port engine with manual tranny. I believe that you could get a 400 with a 3-spd in GP and Monte Carlo.

Talking about odd options on the GPs. Have any of you ever seen a set of rear shoulder harnesses for a 69 GP?
