i flattened the bottom of a couple sets of those crappy super comps also over the years, too.
hedman's units fit great, with excellent ground clearance.
i have them on my very lowered 81; they've never touched the ground.
they've been on there 20 plus years now, still in great shape.
as dave mentioned, doug's are very nice quality.
