Default Q. on installing non-lockup torque converter in lockup 200-4R?

I called Continental about installing a 3000 stall Jim Hand t/c, which is non-lockup, in my Bowtie tranny, which has a lockup t/c. The tech said I need to install a valve in the tranny to stop fluid flow through the t/c. He was a bit vague where this valve goes. Can anyone confirm this?

The tech also told me the 200-4R gets its OD just by locking the t/c up, which kind of made me wonder about the accuracy of the valve information .
