Having the engine upside down on an engine stand, having everything clean and being able to manipulate the pan and bolts, is such a much easier deal than working under the car, even with a lift.
Of course you know BOP makes a one piece oil pan gasket, also...AND after the rear main/pan gasket install, you can hang the engine from a hoist w/ oil in it, tilting it forward for a while (maybe a day) the backward for a while, to make sure everything is sealed up (yes I've done this...)
