I was sent to a "corporate president's manufacturing summit" because the president couldn't make it. Nice conference room overlooking the Chicago skyline and river with speeches by prominent local business owners. Quickly realized the whole thing was set up by a consortium of consultants to lure people into hiring their services. Numerous "Bobs", who looked like fellow attendees, would strike up a conversation and say "wouldn't you like to make your company more efficient?" or "I can show you how to modernize your operations." Told the boss not to go in the future and never send me again.
