Oil pump intermediate shaft

Went to install oil pump and intermediate shaft will not go into pump, tried couple shafts and no luck, pump is m54f I got from Butler. Was going to hit shaft with sandpaper to see if only needs a little taken off for clearance. Thought I would check here first to see if anyone else has had this issue.
