When we dyno engines built for the pure stock drags, we make pulls with and without a base cut from a factory dual snorkel air cleaner that had damaged snorkels. Most engines respond positively with a several hp through the rpm range with the base. Its design smooths the air flow into the air horn of the carb.

I really like the '73-'76 4-bbl air cleaner design for the A&B bodies that has the single large snorkel that can be ducted to the radiator support for cold air intake. The F-bodies use the same design except has a drop base for the lower hood clearance and doesn't flow as well as the A&B base.
