"Count me among those who won't use teflon tape. I've had 100% success with Loctite 567 pipe sealant over a lot of years. The stuff Cliff recommended is probably equally as good."
It's the same product, just a different manufacturer. I discovered it in the Federal stock system back in the late 1980's and have been using it every since. Tossed out all the teflon tape. The PTFE is a thick liquid and an anerobic, and having teflon in it allows for improved lubrication when tightening things up provided more engagement and tighter sealing on the threads. I used it on my entire boiler system and also on the black iron pipe propane system in my house which supplies the furnace, hot water tank, and fireplace upstairs. Used it recently to plumb in some new lines at my daughters house to supply gas to a new range top we installed. I've never had a leak and trust this product any time NPT threads are involved in plumbing something in........
