It’s not really so bad as long as the cylinder did not get scratched in the area where the rings ride.
Once the head is in the hands of the shop it’s not even a hours worth of labor to freshen up the face of the intake valve and the seat in the head. Your time wise it’s part of an after noon each to get it apart and then put it back together, so that’s really not bad. A 1016 gasket works fine, heck I have used the lowly 8518 gasket in a pinch on a blown motor up to 6 psi of boost. Re-using your head bolts is also fine, just make sure that each threads into the hole with just normal finger force. If need be use a clean out tap . I thin film of oil on the threads is all you need, no dripping oil should be seen, so no dipping the bolts in oil. I like to wet a rag with oil to rub the threads with. If you’re running at least a 1/2” spacer then do what a whole lot of racers do. Sandwich aluminum window screen between two gaskets and this whole terrible issue will never happen again.

And he was not talking about 1/8 or 1/4 mile ETs! 1) 1940s 100% silver 4 cup tea server set. Two dry rotted 14 x 10 Micky Thompson slicks. 1) un-mailed in gift coupon from a 1972 box of corn flakes. Two pairs of brown leather flip flops, never seen more then 2 mph. Education is what your left with once you forget things! Last edited by steve25; 11-29-2024 at 04:00 PM. |
