68 Bonneville A/C Blower Motor Removal

I seem to have a short in my blower motor. (Going to go back and verify that again before trying to pull it.) It's in a 68 Bonneville with A/C. I was looking at the manual which says interesting things about removing the fender. Really!? Do I have to do that to get it out? Advice from those of you that have done this is appreciated.
