Default Real radio faceplate, or high school metals class project?

Was going through a pile of old parts, and found this. It came off my 67 many years ago when it had an 80's shaft style cassette stereo. Is it a real part from back in the day, or just something somebody made in shop class? 3/32" steel plate.
