Default How do you get the speedometer cable through a new firewall grommet on a 68 bird?

I need to re-install my speedometer cable (including the outer plastic). My firewall grommet is pretty worn so I would like to replace it too. The grommets are sold by many suppliers and are basically the same. The issue is that the hole in the original style grommet is much smaller than even the smaller end of the speedo cable. So, how do you get the cable through it without cutting or damaging the grommet? Can you lube it up enough to get the cable to go through or ??????????????

I've seen some new grommets that have relatively thin rubber and those I can see stretching (maybe), but they don't look original.

Thanks
Old Joe
