Okay, thanks! The temp sensor was easy to replace. It's right on top of the drivers side head. He just bought this car and someone had wired the fan directly to a fuse thats hot when the key is on. So the fan runs all the time but it also shuts off when he turns off the key.
I mentioned to him that the coolant fan switch (or maybe even the relay) may have gone out and some idiot just straight-wired it not knowing what he was doing. He's trying to get everything put back together correctly now.
