RamAir2,
I know of 3 68 Ram Air II GTO convertibles. One in IL, one in NY and mine which is located in Ohio. I also know of another 68 GTO Ram Air II hardtop located close to me in Ohio. Mine is currently undergoing a frame off restoration. It would be great if I could find a 68 GTO expert that could help supply information for this restoration. Does anyone know who the true 68 GTO expert would be? My car is Flam Burg exterior with white top and parchment interior. It is also a 4 sp car. At this time I am still in search of the correct 7028273 carb and a passenger side exhaust manifold. I dont know about the value of these cars but when I am talking to others and explain that I have a Ram Air II car they either dont believe me or give me a look like... HOLY COW. Any help is appreciated. Thank You, John |

I recently find out about a RA II GTO near me. Spoke to the owners brother who also is a Pontiac guy. Said that his brother has had the car over 20 yrs and that its rotting away under tarps next to the house. The original motor is in his basement. The owner does not have the money to restore the car and according to the brother probably never will. I asked his brother why dont he sell the car to someone who will restore it. He told me the car is sentimental to his brother and brings him back to his youth just to have it around. I spoke to another friend of mine who knows the house and he did say there is a 68 GTO on the property but I can't confirm if it's a real RA II.

Just an FYI, the new issue of Musclecar Magazine has a two-page feature on Truman Field's 68 RAII "Hard Times" Firebird.

Ram Air II
I can confirm of three cars here in Illinois, a friend of mine has a GTO conv. Firebird conv. and hardtop. He also has a Firebird clone car. So thats three more cars plus one clone.

If your buddy is RL...then i think i have those covered on my list above....gto automatic ra 2 convert...the verdoro 5K mile fb coupe..as for the ra 2 fb convert....are u sure its a 2? ...his 68 red ra convert bird is a ram air 1... |

Newbie
Hello everyone, this is my first post and I wanted to introduce myself first.
Jody sent me this link and it interested me enough to join. I see several fimiliar freinds here in Jody, Rob (rdl) and of course the best RA II guy of them all Jim. I believe all that is said likely speaks to the point well enough from my perspective but I did want to add two cars that are most certianly around but I will not devuldge the owners names. That is their choice not mine. I have seen both and one I have had several opportunities to be in. My cousin is (was) the original owner of a RA II convert Goat. Red/blk/blk 4spd car. He sold it a bit ago but it is very much real and around. He bought it new from his own dealerships. The second was not on the list either. It is a RA II bird that is a special order paint code car in red and other very unique options. It is around and I have been helping out with the project. Again it is a well doc'd car. This is a thread I take to heart as RA II's are much loved by me. Especially the Red Goat as it was likely the fastest car I had ever been in when I got my first ride well before I could drive such things. Best regards, Mark Weymouth |

Anyone ever hear of an automatic two tone painted '68 RAII Bird?
Car was Agena (possibly Aleutian) Blue with a cameo ivory top (believe to be dealer painted gold) top.

need some info, i am going to look at what is supposed to be a 68 ram air bird this weekend. same owner for 20+ years. needs restored, green car with a black interior. i have talked with the owner and car is for sale. he says it is a ram air car but not sure. he is the 2nd owner and told me the air cleaner was missing when he bought it and previous owner told him he had the cleaner but never got it. he told me the scoops were closed. a friend of mine did look at it about 2 years ago and told me the car did have the right exhaust manifolds but did not check the numbers. i know of certian things to check but can someone post the casting #'s for me. i am going to run the vin thru phs when i look at the car. friend says the car is solid but needs restored. if it is a ram air car what would be a decent for for it. i know a lot depends on whether it is a ram air 1 or 2 car. thanks for any input.

Ram Air cars through 1967 and into early 1968 were arriving at the dealers with Ram Air systems missing. After an investigation, it was discovered that, since the Ram Air components were to be delivered in the trunk for dealer installation, security at the plant thought that the items in the trunk were stolen. So they confiscated the property and returned it to the parts bin.

Ram 1 = WI 4spd = 321 / XN Auto = 92
#31 D-Port cylinder heads Ram 2 = WU 4spd = 98 / XT Auto = 12 #96 - RA Round-Port cylinder heads VIN stamped on passenger front face of block. If build date is before May , it won't be a Ram 2 1's and 2's all came with 3.90 Posi rears PHS / BHC engine designation code 347 for Uno's and Deuce's. Build date and Math seperates them.
