Larry, money is always an issue. However, I spent a pretty penny on the ceramic coated R.A.R.E. oversized manifolds, and the VOE setup is just under $1,000.. saving a little on a system like this seems a penny wise and a pound foolish.
I'll be surprised if I don't have close to $2K in the exhaust alone by the time it's done. I'd really like to keep the 2.5" setup, at least to the mufflers. It seems like I read somewhere (Maybe Jim's book) that reducing after the mufflers doesn't really hurt much at all.

Keep the 2.5" system; nothing wrong with that at all. Use the reducers just in front of the 2.25" mufflers and the 2.25" tailpipes on the outlets. Jim is correct on the smaller tailpipe senario and his testing pretty much proves that. Spending $2K on the exhaust? Can't you buy just the VOE mufflers without the system.?

Ask Joe to make them with 2.25" outlets and the true 2.5" inlet pipe. I think he can do that 78 Ghost. Should not be too much more, if any.
