Not to mention that it's a WASTE of a perfectly GOOD hood!
Just say NO! Those pictures should NOT be permitted on these forums. (where are the Mods when you need them?) |

I have a Shakeula hood. It came on my Formula 350. It also has some hood pin holes. Once you cut the shaker hole, there is no turning back. Definitely looks like an unfixable mod. Maybe it would look better if you turned the shaker toward the front. I have never seen that.

The ONLY thing you can do is remove it & sell it to somebody with a black dodge diesel dually. Let THEM enjoy it & we won't have to look at it anymore.

Best of Both worlds Dammmit! I still dont hate it.. That Blue car is Sharp.
Looks like it cant make up its mind if its coming or going. :-) If that hood was closer,... and I had money burning a hole in my pocket,... and a shaker...

I remeber seeing some pics of a 73 formula SD here in Dallas that had both since then I thought it was original-rare are you sure they never made any? I didnt care for it. He also had a 74 SD trans am. Man I shoulda grafted formula scoops on to my 72 T/A when I had it- DOH!

a trans am scoop through a ram air formula hood is completely WRONG on so many levels.
1. ugly. and ik make this paramount. 2. makes the hood to crowded and cluttered with too many obstacles. 3. proves no use of any kind at all: - ram air functional formula hood does what is should: take in the cold air and force them into the engine thus providing better air flow for a better use of mixture - trans am (not at all actual shaker) shaker scoop takes in cold air through a different approach by sucking in the air which gets slammed against the windscreen (i dont remember the correct english translation for this word), something to do with pressure, when the 'shaker door' is openened completely. this air is colder then under hood air so again, provides better airmixture possibilities. EITHER one is MORE then usefull. if you use both, you actually risk the chance of providing a 'tunnel' through the ram air hood, and exit through the t/a shaker. though cold air certainly still will be sucked in, first of all the actual 'pressure' usage in both scoops is lost. in other words, you could just cut a open hole in a base firebird hood and you still get the cold air in. please note that a formula hood is aerodynamiccaly overall a flaw (even though an entire firebird will not be a aerodynamic prize winner), but it gives the benefit of the ram air function. the trans am shaker wins over formula hood in aerodynamics (offcourse only when installed correctly) due to it's design. combining them together, however, will once again install the negative aerodynamics factor of the formula hood, and increase the amount of obstacles on the hood since the t/a shaker still is a 'bulge' and thus an obstacle, AND the tunneling effect of the ram air formula scoops through the filter and out via the t/a scoop makes another negative aerodynamic factor, since it does not provide any downforce like f.e. a 'tunneling' in the front of a ferrari f50 provides. to me, combining a formula hood and a trans am hood is like wearing 2 business shirts (not t-shirts) both with a tie. useless, loses the point, wrong at many levels, and in the end: makes you look like a complete and utter tool. like a mullet! - or worse, like KANYE WEST! 4. total disrespect to such a beautifull and flawless designed hood. there is no hood that has such great symbiance with the total design of the entire vehicle. f.e. a 70-73 formula hood looks weird and wrong on any other 2nd gen f-body. 5. rarity factor also makes the formy hood almost 'monumental' (protecting these hoods from bad taste and bad brains by implementing a law against damaging them would save the remainding examples from damage). t/a hoods are almost plenty. formy hoods, RARE. a STRAIGHT, unbent, undamaged, original, fully functional, RAM AIR formula hood is even MORE rare, perhaps even ULTRA-RARE. ripping up such a thing by slamming in a t/a hood is like killing the last dinosaur, dodo or tasmanian tiger. 6. any of the above should be enough to NEVER go into such blasphemous act. taking them all into account would be enough reason to bring out an angry mob with torches and guns and taking law into our own hands to make sure such a thing may never happen again and for correct punishment. perhaps no longer neccassary but still: adding a screaming chicken (though nothing wrong imho on 73+ TRANS AMS) to the above is truly disturbing and an direct invitation to lobotomise the perp responsible for such an act (and his thinking). combining a formy hood with an t/a hood, on a 70-73 t/a, adding a 81 t/a front lower valance spoiler and wheel flares front & rear, adding a screaming chicken on the hood, square mirrors, a 70-73 camaro z/28 rear spoiler, side exhausts, putting 67-69 firebird engine displacement logo's, whilst a 301 oldsmobile engine appears to be under the hood, AND finishing it off with a hood-tacho would make the entire universe collapse and thus the extinction of anything that ever excisted. that includes chuck norris and elvis. in other words: it may NEVER happen. let's HOPE it never happened. knowing the weird people that roam the earth, it MIGHT already have happened. it would explain global warming, earthquakes and tornados. please, fix it. we've already lost elvis. bruce lee died under unexplained circumstances. coincidence? you never know.... in final: I know I'm right on the above. you know i'm right. we all know i'm right. now pull up those sleeves and fix any abused formula hood and save the car from it's owner.

The Corvette Summer car and Ponch's car both have '71 fender louvers.... every scoop, spoiler and louver ever put on a Firebird all wrapped up in one. Does anyone know if either of those cars was a T/A or a Formula to start with???

![]() Also, keep in mind Corvette Summer was about as 70s of a movie as you could get and the guy driving the Formie owned a custom shop. The idea was to radically change the cars into something custom. I'm surprised more wasn't done to that Formula for the purposes of the movie, quite honestly.
