regardless, my preference is to mount the coil away from engine heat, like on the firewall. Mounted to the engine, the coil will be at least at engine temp plus some operating heat.
The downside is that engine movement will possibly loosen the high voltage connection from the tower, and opening the hood if it has water on it may drip onto the coil.
Also additional heat may cause an internal pressure increase, possibly causing a oil leak.
