For sure...a twenty year run isnt shabby. I used to see these everywhere around where I grew up. Pickups werent really needed in suburban areas but these gave the haul space with a car cab. |

i drove as a daily driver and collected elcaminos / gmc sprints for several years. i always said they were the best all round vehicle ever made. many times, i would have given anything to have had a 4wd version. it was amazing how much they would haul and tow. i always had a dually and a 1/2 or 3/4 ton 4wd sitting in the driveway, but 5 out of 7 days would go out and get in one of my elcaminos or my favorite, a 78 gmc caballero dealer converted trans am truck.

i will have to dig some up. they featured it in smoke signals around 11 or 12 years ago or right when they took on gmc as a member of the club.
it was built by ernie miller pontiac gmc (where steved works). they built 10 of them. some had a few different items than others, but all got the t/a hood scoop, fender extractors, and a special paint and stripe job with a modified t/a bird on the hood and on the sides and either snowflake or aftermarket wheels. mine is white with red interior and red accents. they put a formula wheel off of a red bird on it. it is red with the gold spokes and has the firebird emblem on the center cap. it has the 8" snowflake wheels and t/a exhaust splitters. i test drove it when it was new and just couldnt force myself to pay the price they wanted for it. however a guy i went to church with bought it and he sold it to me a few years later when it had 36k on it. i had intended on putting a complete t/a-6.6 and a 4-speed in it back then and pulled one out of a wrecked t/a. i never did do it however. after they built them, the local chevy dealer did the same thing with the elcaminos and used the z-28 items. i havent seen another caballero or elcamino done this way in many years. they have all seemed to disappear. i have the letter from the dealer documenting mine was done by the dealer. |

i said 11 or 12 years ago, but it might not have been that long ago. when did poci start accepting the gmc line??? it was around that time. who here has there smoke signals in chronilogical order????? you could scan and post them. ( i am not trying to be lazy, but i got a new computer and my scanner is not compatible with it for some reason)
