Had:
70 Firebird 350 255,000 til it was totaled by my mom in 83. Used by the whole family. Never apart but timing chain. 72 GTO with 455 & AT, daily driver from 82-99 never apart, 217,000 til it started using oil. Well worn car. Sold it for about 3K in 99. Joe at parts place ended up with it somehow. 85 Grand Am 3.0L V-6 196,000 til it was sold to a guy taking it to Puerto Rico, only a timing chain. 87 Grand Am 3.0L V-6 297,000, only a timing chain besides maintenance; donated it to a friends kid learning to drive, didn't last 6 months til he wrecked it. 95 Grans Am 3.0L V-6, 286,00, original exhaust, head gaskets x2, sold it last summer. Girl still using to deliver pizzas, no problems. My current 02 Grand Am 3.1 V-6 126,00 still going, only maintenance costs. My 89 GMC 1500 4-wd just turned 236,000, never apart, engine or trans except fluid change. Figured I m on borrowed time on that 700R4 but still works good. Bought the top 4 used, bottom 3 new. I have no complaints about GM cars. |

The rears on my 67 did that at 85K. Too much torque to the wheels, too little torque to the lug nuts.

237k on my 89 Grand Marquis. Got it for free and put trans in it @ 120k or so. About $1000 in repairs aside from brakes/tires over the 6 years I've owned it. Best car I've ever owned. Drive it to work (65 mi each way) 5 days a week!

Yesterday I ran into and old friend who bought a very similar '01 last week. It has 256K on it and he loves it. We were at an auto parts store and he was buying parts to rebuild the front end.
I know a few others with similar trucks and they all brag on them. I'd like to have a PowerStroke Excursion, myself. |

Have 227K on my '03 E350 Ford van. Bought it on the way to the covention in '09 when my other van quit in Boise Idaho. '03 had 186K when I bought it, had no problems at all, goes through DEQ so clean the testers can't believe it, gets to 17mpg on the highway with the cruise on. I'm happy.

200000 miles is only 321000 kms. my 6.5 has 500600 kms on the original bottom end and tranny and there is lots of cummins dodge here with tons more that that . the courier guy has 1.2 on his 98 dodge. his odometer locked at 999999 so he keeps track of it with the tripmeter
my shop sees the odd pre 98 chev gas job with 450000 on the original motor, even some indian trucks afdter 99 with well over 400000 kms. ford needs to learn how to build a truck

Like keith said you guys are rookies. Me and my wife have always put atleast 250,000 mi. before thinking new. Just bought a new Jeep Wrangler but kept her older Grand Cherokee with 287,000. Here 84 Monte Carlo had 330,000 mi. V6. Her 72 Monte Carlo had 250,000 and the timming chain went and I gave it to my nefhew and it became a pizza delivery car. Shoulda keep that one to restore. My 2003 Ford deisel has 190,000mi. and I've been retired for 2 yrs. My 1990 chevy pickup is all restored and sits in the garage with 330,000mi. at 230,000 I let my brother borrow it and the thermastate stuck and the bonehead cooked the motor so I got a crate motor.

When I was a kid my dad had a '72 Monte Carlo that was his company car..... It had 250k when he turned it in.
I have a '96 F-250 4x4 Powerstroke in the backyard with 392k. I bought it as a wholesale for $600 and drove it home 60 miles.....and now it won't start and a tree fell on it. Earlier this year I bought a '97 Grand Cherokee 4.0 2wd as a wholesale with 482k. The vehicle was in better shape than most 100k vehicles I see.... it still ran and drove pretty good... but you could "feel" the miles. My '03 Avalance had 228k on it when I bought it.... I ran it up to 256k and sold it. The vehicle was still in excellent condition and drove great. In my business I see a lot of high mileage vehicles and usually buy them if they are in good shape....

My 98 GMC 1500 Z71 has 254 K on it and still runs very well. Just starting to show a very little bit of rust in the cab corners (you can't see it yet but i can see the bubles when I get down up close so work is in order). I have run lucas additive in it from about 180K and oil pressure runs a bit over 40 going down the road and 20 + at idle. I had to do a valve body in the trans when i first got it, had a fluke rear axle issue and the bypass got stuck and full O/P to filter made a mess. Other than that did intake gaskets, some front end stuff, radiator, WP, Alt, Starter. Starter was my fault, the rest was just wear type parts, interior is showing it's age but the truck presents well. most people guess it has a bit over 100K. Mark
