Ultra cool story and car.
Can't imagine either of my Grandmoms driving a 4spd GTO anytime anywhere !
Your ol gal was a real trooper.

One of mine did buy a new 64 Bonneville Convertible in fall of 63.
They brought me home from hospital in that car in winter of 63.
Been a Pontiac Man ever since.

That first picture is pure solid gold wall hanging quality.

oh yeh, wanted to pass this tip along too.
When you scan old snapshots - do a preview first - it should have an option to make the scan a full pane/full window/full size transfer that fills the whole window.

Garage, ya right! This car, until I got it ,was never undercover. There are a lot of inches of rain in a year in the Pacific NW. Not much snow and no salted roads, but man have we got rain!

Greg, Nice job with the quarters. I'm surprised that you didn't weld in some original metal in the trunk with some of the other stuff you had. Was it easier to weld in the 3 pieces?

You are doing a great job, thanks for all the pics
I sand blast all parts, then cook them in the zinc phosphate solution till they stop fizzing and soak them in WD-40. You can get the stuff from a number of places. I believe its the same a pakarizing, you can even make your own with steel wool and some other stuff but I chose to buy it. I will give you a more accurate description tomorrow when I get the reciepe out of my shop.

John, the 3 piece trunk worked out pretty well. I did have some other trunk pieces but Mike thought it was best to go with the new stuff, I believe he was correct.

Picture of supplies and cooking set up for zinc phosphate/parkerizing. 4oz/1gal water, bring to 180/190 degrees. Clean nuts and bolts in blast cabinet, use plyers not fingers to transfer to solution. Cook untill parts stop fizzing submerge in WD-40. I use an electric turkey cooker for bigger parts.

Here is a shot of one of the original 14" JK wheels I painted. I tried one of those mask kits you can buy and they SUCK!!! I sand blasted and primed. Sprayed the backside color, sprayed the silver then masked up the spokes by hand with blue tape and cut the rounded areas with an exacto knife. I then sprayed a coat of silver again so any paint that got behind the tape was silver. At this point no more paint will get behind the tape and I sprayed the charcoal.
I had all three paints matched to the spare and it is base clear, had to add flatner to the clear.
