To me gun's are one of those thing's that first impressions mean alot when I first hold a new gun. If it fits your hand than it worth trying out. Nothing worse than buying a new gun and finding out 200 rounds later it kills your hands. So I say it does not matter what caliber it may be as long as she can handle the gun. I am a fan of the 40's as well but some do not like the recoil. To me some of the 9's have just as much snap becuase of there smaller frame. Which I find hard to hold when you loose the pinky finger. Some of the sub-compact guns do have a finger extension's. The biggest problem I have is there is to many guns I want but my wallet will not allow this to happen.
Good luck and have fun and be safe.
