I've ridden in a few back in the late 50s and early 60s. It was scarry sitting there when my granddad decide to pass a car. Grandma would holler.. "George, watchout for the car!", and cringe.

What a cool find! I love the wagons too, and I love mine, albeit mine wasn't a 6 cyl originally, so I had no qualms about swapping in a 428.

If I had a collection, Id have a 66 wagon. They just scream cool. Nice car.

I'd love to find a 66 wagon like it but modify it. As in using the rear and grafting it to a non original 66 GTO so you'd have a 2dr HT wagon.

Best of both worlds except for the 66's louvered tail lights. Only for a wagon could I live without em.

Great car, I love wagons. I've had an itch for a wagon for about 10 years now. Now for the GTO tail lights in the wagon, I saw a wagon about 20 years ago at a show here in MI. somewhere near Grand Rapids if I remember correct, there was a guy with awagon that he had grafted in the 67 style tail lamp into the back door & filled in the original tail lamps so it looked like the GTO rear but it was just inset a little. It looked good but because it was a little farther in because he had to have them all in the rear door it looked a little out of place , but you got use to it. I don't know where the car is now. Haven't seen it for about 15 or so years now.

That would be like the El Camino with the 66 GTO front clip on it. He grafted the 66 tail lights in the tailgate and that really looked strange, and out of place.

Yes I think if there was a way to split them & have them go all the way to each side it would have looked better & more balanced.

As I think of all the shows/events I've attended I can say I have never seen a '67 SAFARI WAGON.
If one was to be had in "project" condition I would think it almost impossible to replace any missing side panel trim.

I started going back through this thread to see if they used the fenders fins on a Lemans wagon. Then it occurred to me that we are talking about Tempest wagons only. As they didn't make a Lemans wagon.

It took me a little time, but I found it. I know this was at Carlisle, and the date on the photos is 4/24/10, so it was Spring Carlisle. It was a 326 powered car...

Rex, it does look longer... tho it's just an optical delusion.

Cuz, that was the truth. In southern central NY [Otsego and Delaware counties where we were] back then there weren't any 4 lane highways like today. Most of the roads we rode on were 2 lane back roads, and most of them were dirt roads. Even meeting a car on the main roads was a scarry proposition. Especailly at night with no shoulders, and cars running with headlights only. Remember, back then parking lights weren't on with the headlights. One headlight out made ya real nervous.
