Our '68 was a 400 2 bbl; bucket seat column shift auto.

One of the 68 convertibles is gone - I parted it back in the early 90's.

I've seen probably half a dozen 67 GTO 2bbl cars.
Two or Three 69's

But never seen a 68 2bbl GTO in person or on paper.
Surprised that they built that many.

ha! considering they never made the 400-4 originally either, I'm surprised they don't make a 194-4 for those 4 cylinder half a v-8 blocks!

When Anthony gave me his original 326 from his 67 clone he threw in an aftermarket chrome open element air cleaner, and you guessed it, the famous sticker on it with 326-4 called out!!

Yeah. How did those aftermarket air cleaner stickers become so pervasive? I see them on everything now, not just GM. Some people actually think they are factory original.

It's a combination of things. First off, people can't understand the lack of identity these cars have. They see the Chevy 396 emblems, the vette 327 flags, the mopar 383 pie tins, the 455 HO call outs on the 71's, even the Lemans' at least have the 350 on the rockers, what does a 69 GTO have? Nothing. What was GM thinking?!?! No where on the car does anything tell you what motor it has in it, At least the older goats had a 6.5 litre in the emblem. Top that off with the fact that you can't tell by looking at the motor whether it's a 326 or a 455 when you pop the hood at the show so people grasp for pretty stickers. Not fair that your 68 sits there with a plain jane bare air cleaner lid when you've got a 71 on one side of you with that monster 455HO sticker on his air cleaner, and the guy on the other side has his Belvedere with that glinting 383 Super Commando pie tin on his. You see the Pontiac arrowhead next to 400-4 and either you don't know any better, or decide that it's easier than answering the inevitable question: "what motor's it got?"

I can understand the madness, still wouldn't get me to run one on my car under pain of torture, but that's just me, I don't begrudge the guys doing it. (and yes, that picture I loaded with the 326-4 is actually from my 71 lemans (with a 350-4 in it)....I put it on there as a joke for my fellow pontiac buddies around here and haven't gotten around to putting the correct air cleaner back on it yet!)

I've seen a few '68 2bbls over the years. I parked next to one a couple weekends ago. primivera beige, black vinyl top, gold interior, a/c, automatic. All original cream puff of a car probably originally ordered by a grandpa

Yeah, I can see it now....20 years in the future, cars without these stickers will be pronounced 'incorrect' at all the cruise nights around the country because someone's uncle had one back in the year 2000...It was 'totally original' and had one...lol

20 years? they're already thinking that NOW! same with those GM foil decals on the doors springing up on every car, they stopped using those in 67 yet every 68 and up resto I see being done now has them as "correct" because the catalogs say so!

I remember seeing them back in the late 80's-early 90's, the decal guy "jim Osborne" maybe? had a stand at the Carlisle show in PA with all the repop decals he was supplying. Not sure if they were in those early PY and Ames catalogs back then, but I remember that huge spread of repop decals that place used to sell. Ames and PY tents were TINY back then!

I don't know if he was just a supplier or made the stuff but whoever is responsible for creating this Buick Pontiac sticker needs to be hunted down and shot with extreme prejudice!
