Okay, I checked my top frame. No coat hook but it DOES have a screw hole about that same location. No screw hole on the right side.
So now I need to know, was the coat hook for the '64 convertible the same as the one in the coupe? If so, I wonder why the convertible hook was different for '65? |

Picture shows the coat hook from my 64 GTO conv and my 64 GTO HT.
Conv is the small hook - a zinc casting. HT is the large hook - a sheet metal stamping |

Jim, excellent. FWIW, it looked like a different hook in the picture, I'm glad you have the confirmation. I bet the coupe hook either would poke at the top or snap off when the top was dropped, either way, they were compelled to issue a specific coat hook for the convertible.
I googled it and looks like PY offers the convertible hook as a repro. PY190, $11 each. Interesting that they offer the coupe hooks by the pair. I feel for you '65 & '66 guys. The SCN applies to '64. Wonder if the RH coat hook continued to be a dealer only thing for '65? If you have 2 hooks in a '65 or '66, no way to know if the RH was dealer added or factory since the screw hole was always provided. At least the '64 guys can be sure. One factory hook only, different hook for the convertible. Least that's my conclusion. Other opinions may vary!

Hard Tops got the long chrome stamped steel as mentioned above and the Convertibles got the little stubby chrome hook (big enough for one hanger).
The small style hook was used for the convertibles from 64 to 67. First two pics below show 66 Convertibles with a LH hook. Third pic shows a 67 Convertible with this hook (very difficult to see, but it's there when zoomed in). Last pic shows a 66 Hardtop with the long stamped hook. PS - location seems to vary a bit in the pics of the convertible frames. |
