Smile Information accumulated regarding cast/stamped 2506 blocks and date codes:

I currently have (two) 9792506 Service Replacement RAII/RAIV blocks.

The first has the as-cast 9792506, stamped SR862xx and has a casting date of C118.

The second is cast 979, ground and stamped 2506, stamped SR892xx and has a casting date of F179.

Are you able to identify any differences between those two blocks? (Besides the cast number...)

If the freeze plugs are removed, can you measure the cylinder wall or block thickness and see if one is thinner than the other? I am curious why the as cast 2506 blocks were discontinued mid way through the RAII production run. Comparing the two blocks you have may provide some clues.
