I remember thinking "Why are these guys selling that car to a known low-balling flip artist?" They knew what they had and had all the docs to go with it. They could have easily gotten that $55K (or better) themselves.

IIRC, the wheels were the only incorrect items on that beautiful car.

The 77 and 80 Special Edition TA's were crazy money. The sky's the limit on those cars. I think they are the most sought after 1975-1986 American made car now with collectors (1987 GNX's still pull a lot of money).

That 80 TA SE was so special because of the low miles. But it was only a few years ago that a guy was trying to sell a 1979 TA 10th Anniversary 400 4-speed (which was always far more desirable than any other 75-81 TA from a collector standpoint) with under 100 miles for $30,000, and there were no takers.

About 10 years ago, the Special Edition cars were selling for $15K-$25K, now fully restored or low mileage originals seem to get $40K or more, and the 10th Anniversary cars are still around $30K.

I bet Trans Am Specialties in Florida is jumping for joy. They have at least 25 Special Edition cars in stock at all times.
