I remember thinking "Why are these guys selling that car to a known low-balling flip artist?" They knew what they had and had all the docs to go with it. They could have easily gotten that $55K (or better) themselves.

IIRC, the wheels were the only incorrect items on that beautiful car.

The 77 and 80 Special Edition TA's were crazy money. The sky's the limit on those cars. I think they are the most sought after 1975-1986 American made car now with collectors (1987 GNX's still pull a lot of money).

That 80 TA SE was so special because of the low miles. But it was only a few years ago that a guy was trying to sell a 1979 TA 10th Anniversary 400 4-speed (which was always far more desirable than any other 75-81 TA from a collector standpoint) with under 100 miles for $30,000, and there were no takers.

About 10 years ago, the Special Edition cars were selling for $15K-$25K, now fully restored or low mileage originals seem to get $40K or more, and the 10th Anniversary cars are still around $30K.

I bet Trans Am Specialties in Florida is jumping for joy. They have at least 25 Special Edition cars in stock at all times.

Don't think Gas Monkey TV will give you the real costs of what they put into their flippers like the salary and benefit costs of their techs, building costs, taxes, etc... They seem to focus on parts and outsourced costs of their projects. Bet they do good on their Gas Monkey merchandise stuff though, and now I think they opened a bar?

I keep forgetting these folks don't deal with ordinary working folks like most of us here.

Their clientele are mostly folks with megabucks, folks that have so much money, that paying 10 times what a classic car is worth, is chump change to them.

The black 77 and 80 T/A's are both in that catagory...or maybe the buyers both just really like the cars, they are both top condition Pontiacs. I'm guessing the guy that bought the 80 may have bought it because of the mileage AND because the car was exceptionally nice.

The 80 has strong feelings that the 77 movies cars have, probably carried over...Pontiacs finally getting the credit as super cars they deserve. Seeing overprices mopars gets old....

From what I am seeing..... it looks like the prices for original / stock muscle cars are rebounding... good sign.....

As much as I like resto mods and pro-touring machines ..... I love to see the original stuff come back into its own....

I don't think money like this can or will hold up over time. Things don't apprechiate at a 300% rate over night. These cars will not see this money ever again unless its a fixed deal. As for Rawlings he is no dummy and has already got his moneys worth of publicity from this.
