The deal was, as I recall, the very dark tinted band at the TOP of the windshield was standard on A/C equipped cars and optional on non A/C cars. The much lighter tinted glass was optional all around. Either 'windshield only' or 'all'.
Definitely worth getting on most colors in my opinion. With black cars and some cars with black interiors it doesn't make much difference but most cars really benefit from the tint in my opinion.

My glass guy calls that the "shade", so windshields could be described as:
- tinted / shaded - nontinted / shaded - nontinted / nonshaded ("water clear" on da whole ting) This pertains to tint. Side and rear glass never got the shade. (Most of us know this but I'm clarifying that in thinking about future searches by the as-yet-uninitiated DarkSider.)
