The dimensions on my Scat forging were near flawless.

Aren’t most of the overseas pieces forged at the same places?

China is such a big market for vehicles and industry there are MANY MANY Forging houses for steel products. One of the largest Turbo manufacturers has a new massive Plant in China and is using China Aluminum, China Steel, and China Workers to put the stuff together. So to assume that a few places are making all of the parts might be a stretch. There are 'layers" of manufacturing: Jim/Bob's Forging House, ABC Forging House, General Motors Forging House, etc. GM sells more vehicles in China than the USA/ Mexico and possibly Canada sales combined in a year. A Lot of Buicks. SCAT has a high enough volume that they can use a quality Forging House. And possibly they still do all of the machining of their cranks still in the USA. Being "spot on" with a SCAT crank does not surprise me. Tom V.

If one asks a crank company where the steel is sourced from, most...if not all will tell you it is proprietary info. I was told this from Ohio Cranks when I purchased my billet crank. Doesn't hurt to do your homework. Ask around and see if you can gleen any info on the base steel and it's origins. I'd think if any crank manufacturers are using "High Grade" American steel...they'd display it and wear it like a crown. One can source "dirty steel" from any country....including the USA.

You say SCAT uses a quality forging house. I gather SCAT has the ability to Xray, if you will or do whatever else is needed to determine if the forgings are up to their standards? Again I'm asking as I know very little about this. Is SCAT the only one doing this? I have a SCAT 4.25 forging from Butler's and a Star Galaxy 4.500 forging from FrankG. I don't really care which one I use, but I prefer the better of the 2.
