Are the shifters different for a console vs. non-console car?

Some of the non-console cars used a different stick, while others got the same stick as the console cars. Here is a picture of both sticks side-by-side.

Shifter ball color have significance between 4 spd cars or was that a 3 spd/4 spd difference?

Both the shifter sticks in the picture had been rechromed, so I stored them wrapped in an old sock with old shifter balls installed in order to protect the threads, so the color of the shifter balls in the picture has no significance as far as application. In 1970 the big black shifter ball was used in both the three and four speed cars, although I'm sure some will disagree with that and say that the leather wrapped shifter knob was used as well. Either way, I do not believe they used a white shifter knob/ball at all, at least not in 1970.
