May not be on anyone's list of favorites but it's only as bad as you make it. It can be done in car if need be.

Give yourself a weekend and you'll get it done with time to clean the mess it's likely made already on bottom of car.

If doing in car you usually need to raise the motor some.
Wood chisels make excellent gasket scrapers BTW.
