He's running an automatic......so should be as little easier.

Power glide, the same trans that was in his GTO. Weight is 2,350 with driver.

I know a guy that ran a glide in a funny... it let loose on the launch and a piece if it took a chunk of a crew members leg off... somehow the driver didnt get hurt...
I know people do it but the belhousing is where your feet basically rest in those cars..
I would personally never do it. I hope he is taking all the safety measures he can.. jmo.

In my post I typed its the SAME trans that has lived in his 3,400 lbs 7.40 GTO, it should live. He has been racing his 3,400+ lb. 7 sec. car for a while now. Me...I like a 3 speed.

Yep, your feet and lower legs straddle the bellhousing in a funny car. Our car has a steel bellhousing with a liner. Probably weighs 70-75 Lbs. The clutch is another 50+ lbs inside. Would love to have all titanium in that area. Not in our budget and we pay a big weight penalty for all that steel. I would certainly think this car has some sort of ultra-case for the trans and the best of everything inside. Then possibly a ballistic blanket over the entire deal. Hopefully, everyone will be safe, clutch or auto.

We ran the same type bell in ours.. the titanium bell was crazy exspensive.. even an ultra case on a glide is no where near as thick or safe as a lenco with a steel bell...
I would never do it..dont care if it was behind the same engine or not...not in a funny...
I was going to run a $7k glide until I started talking to smarter people then me ( not hard to find) .. trans companies and racers.... ended up spending the extra for the lenco... also went from a 2 to a 3 spead as the there was way too much drop in rpm from first to second...motor didnt like it..with the Lenco you just bolt another gear on between 2nd and the reverser...
Wish them the best and hope it works for them especially from a safety stand point. It's a dangerous sport and safety is not somewhere to cut corners...
