Good news, I finally found a workshop who will do the rebuild of my '55 Hydramatic transmission. I have to remove the transmission by myself and bring it to them. I have been warned it will be heavy They have experience with the classic Hydramatics and also recommended a better (external) cooler for the transmission fluid after the rebuild is done.
They will open the trans with me together and check for the main problem, I will report it here @Bill

Bad side of the news: they don't have time for this before mid of May, and told me the rebuild will most likely take 1-2 months because of very long delivery times for parts, main reason are the current customs policies .
They know the rebuild kits from Fatsco, and said some parts of those kits are of bad quality and its better to use NOS parts if available, and some parts like bearing shells they even make themselves. And it will be expensive (of course )

So that's the plan now - any hints how to remove the transmission are welcome of course, since it's my first Pontiac. I already read the trans removal section in the shop manual tho...

Thank you for these hints - I already found the single set, but I need a complete set. I checked the Moraine ones you linked - I'm afraid it's not even incomplete, it looks also like it's an undersize (see last picture in the listing...).
But I wrote them an E-Mail and asked, no answer yet.

It's a really comfortable upgrade, starts so much easier after standing for a longer time.
