I got a feeling if you wait the prices will go down even more... Same thing played out with the tomahawk intake. Ace did the work to get the exclusive deal and then got hosed by the Chinamen. I think they started at $299 and a year and a half later I picked one up on ebay for $110.
I don't feel sorry for edelbrock either, compare their prices on heads and its pretty easy to figure out they have been screwing Pontiac people for 20 years. |

I would only buy them when its from a legit company who buys the casting and inspects them before they go for sale. (Like Goatzilla probably does) Even better if its someone who buys the bare castings and puts quality components in them.
For sure its a much better deal than going through factory iron heads. You will for sure bolt on power. WIth that said, Im building a budget BBC for a race car. EVERY SINGLE dyno I have seen that compares speedmaster/Promaxx etc chinese castings to a serious set of Dart or Brodix heads, they give up significant power to the American castings. So for budget better than factory heads, yeah no brainer. But as cast you are going to give up power to most bigger name heads.

He already did, he cut a head apart to check the core and deck thickness etc. |

The knock on the foreign stuff, be it a head or a distributor cap has always been QC. For every few people who have a product that worked great there is a guy who had one that was all the way bad. As I earlier said, I think the best bang for the buck is buying the cheap bare casting, having it inspected and having quality components used in it. I know people like Skip White do that in the BBC world, I dont know about the pontiac castings.

I know next to nothing about flow numbers. Do these numbers seem reasonable to those of you that do?
About what horsepower would this air flow support? Thanks Murf Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

Numbers seem reasonable. I bought a set and will flow them to see. Out of the box they should be able to support 550HP. Add a little port cleanup and some better springs and I would say close to 600 HP with not much work.

Different headers, only closed chamber heads, crappy low lift flow numbers coupled with huge port volumes, aftermarket head bolts required, and then add the communist factor...
I'm out but was almost there at this price. |

Both E heads and KRE heads require aftermarket head bolts and headers for round ports unless you purchase the “D” port variety. Your point?

The Speedmaser heads have fast burn modern chambers that are superior to any Pontiac head. I've explained so many times to every keyboard expert who can't invest 10 minutes to read all the research I've already published that the heads are designed and tooled in Australia, then they send their tooling to their own high tech foundry in China (you know that country that has all our metal) where they gravity die cast the castings then ship the raw castings to California where they are CNC machined and assembled.

I was skeptical as well, but Randy seems to have dispelled that these heads are inferior to the E Heads that we Pontiac folks have been overpaying for like 20 years. But still Olds/Edelbrock,Speedmaster, and AMC heads from Edelbrock are still hundreds of dollars cheaper than Pontiac heads are...……… Funny thing is, the same dissent was present when E heads first came out, many of the skeptics at that time said they weren't as good as the factory cast iron heads. Then KRE, and the CV1s are still taking a beating on this forum..... The adage, "You can please some of the people some of the time, but you can't please all the people all of the time".... is still true.... |

I would like to see back to back power numbers rather than flow numbers. Maybe that's been posted and I missed it.
I completely agree that these are going to be better than any factory cast head. That's not even really a debate, and at a price point that is hard to beat. But as I said, Ive been shopping around for BBC heads and in most head to head comparisons I have seen the cheap castings do give up power, even as their flow numbers seemed similar. Obviously there are a lot more options out there for the BBC than there are for Pontiacs which could play a factor as well. One test specifically was the 320cc Pro Comps against several other big name heads. While the Pro Comps performed admirably, they lost handily to AFR and Brodix. To be fair here, if I remember that test correctly the BBC E heads lost handily to the AFRs and all as well. Considering that's largely what we have on the Pontiac side, maybe the Speedmasters are closer to the competition. Of course they could be better too. I would like to see it.
