Traded my 211,000 mile 1999 GMC 4x4 Extd Cab PU in yesterday for something a little different. A one owner, 83,000 mile C10...

The whitewall tires HAVE to go. 205/75/15's just look tiny and these suckers are so old that I don't trust them anyway.

Do yourself a favor...install the larger side mirrors....never understood why GM put those car mirrors on a truck.

I had an 84 and it was great...parts are cheap and working on any part is very easy...so much room to work. Nice looking truck!

that is a nice truck especially for the year, i had an 82 siera and i loved it. had 2 headlights per side tho.


nice truck and all, but was the 99 in bad shape, those 88 up chevy trucks are good looking trucks also, and ride good, guess depending on the shape of the 99 would determine if you traded up or down

The old truck had 211,000 miles (vs. 83,000 for the new) and the typical (for this area) cab corner rust, rust around the driver's side wheelwell and a small dent in the passenger side box. The interior condition of both trucks was similar in condition. I lost the 4WD, but also the potential expense of repair. I also lost AC - which I will miss.

But I rarely used my truck - probably less than 2,000 miles per year.

I gave $1,500.00 plus my truck - and consider it a trade up. And I now have an asset that will probably appreciate and give me more pride of ownership.

One of my customer's barn find - only thing he did was put a fresh coat of paint over a faded original paint rust free body. Interior and the inside of the box were untouched. The box is perfect inside - no rust whatsoever - and had a bed mat in it from new. Truck was always shedded, and I will be getting the original, matching color, fiberglass top/aluminum side topper if I want it. Tough decision - it's actually a pretty good looking topper - but I've always had a rollup tonneau on my trucks. I'll post a photo of the topper later.

I stopped in to sell them stuff - and ended up buying a truck...

Definitely the OE spare.

You've moved up in the world. Truck to truck the 80's models and hands down better less troublesome units than the current offerings

Nice truck! Looks very clean and solid. Between me, my family, and my friends, I've seen, worked on, driven and rode in lots of these 'ol Chevys. The main repairs they will periodically need are starters, alternators, water pumps, and valve cover gaskets. They will run until they burn through the distributor rotor! So use good quality tune up parts. Every 125-150000 miles they will need a Quadrajet rebuild. Transmissions are good for 175-200000 if you don't do much towing. Good luck and enjoy that ol truck.

Based on anticipated annual mileage - that first Qjet rebuild will be in about 20 years or so...

Got the photo of the topper loaded - the top is a little faded - but I think I could buff it out.



Still debating what I want to do - topper or tonneau cover??? The topper is period correct - the tonneau is more functional (to me).

Opinions???

I've never seem an aluminum/fiberglass combo cap like that before. That cap along with the whitewalls really makes for an "old man" truck.

I'd say loose the cap and put on some real tires and it'll be a sharp looking truck.

I am an old man... But I agree the whitewalls need to go. Thinking about some 235/70/15's to replace the stock 205/75/15's.

Also thinking about a slight drop - maybe 1" in the front and 2" in the back.

Still struggling on the topper - I don't like having to bend over to get into the bed of the truck. When they first told me there was a topper included if I wanted it - I immediately said no (thinking it was the typical aluminum topper). But they made me go look at it - and when I saw it... Well let's just say that it's making the decision tougher.

Is it a 305 or a 350?

I'm short - legroom not an issue. Long trips - probably not much more than 3 hours one way. I have thought of looking for some late model buckets to put in though.

It's a 305 with the 2bbl. I was disappointed in that when I found that out - but I have to say it's performs quite a bit better than I expected. Maybe I should stoke it...
