Where I grew up is Dumfries, Va. At the time of the Revolution it was the biggest shipping port on the east coast, or so I heard.

I was born and raised in High Point NC. Known worldwide as The Furniture City. At one time, about 90% of the world's furniture was made and sold here. NAFTA has really made those numbers dwindle, but there is still a strong furniture manufacturing and retail base.
I now reside in Lexington SC where the bbq sucks, but we have Michelin, Do It Best Hardware, Apex Tool, and Rawl Farms who grow and distribute a variety of fresh, local grown crops.

Hmmmm well lets see. When asked, I always say that I live a in nw suburb of Chicago. Shall I say anything else like crime, mafia or taxes?
The town I live in doesn't really have anything outstanding. We were voted as number ninety something as one of the best places to live in the US a couple of years ago. |

I was born near Ft Bragg, but my dad moved back to Monroe NC when I was very young. Monroe is my home town as far as I'm concerned.
Monroe is the birth place of Senator Jesse Helms. |

Dismal World
before then it wasnt even known statewide now its internationally known. My parents hometown is fictionally known as Radar O'Reillys hometown. First time I heard that I did a double take...... How does a story writer pick a midwestern town that had max population of 30K to use in a story line? To make it even weirder his moms name ,Edna, not a very common name, was the same as my Great Grandmother who was born and raised there.

Mountain Dew was invented here, so that should make this Mecca for all our redneck brethren. Don't forget the Body Farm.
Most would recognize musicians from Chet, Acuff, Dolly, Chesney, Everly Brothers. RCA discovered Elvis here finding his Sun record in a music store. Sports figures from Manning, Helton, Pennington, Reggie White, John Cooper and women's college basketball under Pat Summit. Stan Brock, Dave Thomas, Ruby Tuesdays, steamed sandwiches. We make boats too. Pilot Travel Centers. Bush Beans. |
