I'm going to have to buy another front carpet at some point because the new boot couldn't quite cover the old hole completely.

Hey, great job!
It looks like you are using a Lakewood bellhousing. How well was the center and parallel alignment? Did you have to use offset dowels? I just indexed my Lakewood (I'm putting a tko 600 in my 69 firebird) and it was right on: 0.002" runout on center bore, and 0.0015" off parallel. |

The Break-In & Test Drive
After everything was put back together I started the car up while still on the jack stands to run it for 15 minutesfor the intitial break-in. During that time I sat in the car and went through all the gears and also let it run each gear for a few minutes at a high idle. After that was done I dropped the car back on the ground and took it for a ride. I immediately noticed a big difference with the first gea ratio. My Super Case muncie had a 2.20 ratio and the new TKO has a 2.87. My car has 3.73's in the rear and I didn't realise till now how much better a lower ratio in first could make. After a couple hundred miles of driving time all I can say is I LOVE IT!!!!! I can actually drive down the highway again going 70 mph with my engine revving at about 2,000 rpm's. Can't wait to take it to the track! I'm hoping that I'll have better 60' times which should help my overall ET as well. If you're in the market for a 5 speed trans like this TKO600 give Jeff or Scott at Classic Chevy 5 Speed a call or shoot them an email. I forgot to mention that when I called a couple other plces that sold Tremecs they told me it would be at least 6 weeks before they could ship me a trans, Classic Chevy 5 Speed had them in stock! http://www.classicchevy5speed.com/ (760)230-2045

Actually mwritter, if you bolt a more like stock shifter arm in place of the shorty I used it will look more like stock. And like I said in one of the posts I can use my console with the offset shifter that I chose. With a console in place I doubt you could tell the difference. I just went the other route for now.

Phil - Did you check with Kessler(I think that's the right name) about one of their kits? When I redo my 62 Cat, plan on a 421 with this same transmission. Just curious if there was much difference between the 2(in the event you talked to them).

Yes I did Hooter. They were one of the ones that told me 6 weeks delivery for the trans. My car needed a trans now and Classic Chevy delivered. Keisler is good but they're not the only one out there.

Clean install, nice car! Always liked red on '65s.
For those of you that want an OD transmission but aren't up to modifying your car's floor, there's a new richmond 6speed available in the for sale section. |

Did you end up using their yoke with the 1330 U-joint?

Jeff, are there any plans to release a yoke with a 1350 u joint?

JYD - I did go with the 1350 u-joint on the front but honestly can't remember what we did for the back. I have a less common rear end yoke on my 12 bolt. I went as HD as I could. I'll have to check my records.

I second CC5speed! Those guys are great. I got the wrong speedo gear when I bought it. I installed it and ran it months later and noticed it. They had one shipped out that day for me, free of charge. They really go out of their way there.
6567- Just wait a few hundred more miles. The shifts just get smoother and smoother. Its like butter in mine. That 4-5 shift takes a little bit of getting used to though.

A 1350 yoke is already avaialble and is a common part. Actually we have 1350 yokes in a solid Spicer style1 or a custom quick release version. You just need to request which one you want when your driveshaft is being built.
Phil has a 1350 slip yoke and 1350 ujoint up front and has a "3R" style (not to common)ujoint in the back. For the most part you will find 1310 ujoints as stock (sometimes a 1330). With that said, you can choose whicever size you want (1310, 1330, 1350). Of course you will need to change your rear pinion yoke to match your rear ujoint.

I like my TKO-600 more everytime I drive my car. One of the best mods I did. But I do have a question. Which offset shifter are you using? I am aware of only one. I put an offset shifter on mine, and it didnt last 100 miles. The entire shifting force went thru a very small drift pin. When the drift pin broke, it stranded me and I had to be tow trucked home. I am modifying my console so I can use a standard shifter.
