I think you will hear some debate as to whether the early steel rods are acutaully any better than the later cast rods. From what I have read, if you don't have them heat treated and shot peened they are supposed to be weaker.

I did break one in a 428 I had that I was running up to 6200 rpm's through the traps drag racing it. But if you are going to keep the RPM's below say,5000 you probably won't have any problems
