How much did the "Endura Bumper option" cost???
From 1968 - 1972, the Endura bumper was the standard bumper on the GTO, although in 1968 there was an "Endura delete" option.
Your lack of knowlege on GTO's in only superceded by your lack of knowlege on cars in general...

Maybe Lutz needs to put a "GTO badge" delete option on the Monero and sell them for what they are....Monero's...

...Read my post again moron. If your intellect is above that of a lug wrench you will see I was indicating the availability of the delete option. It is my opinion the GTO looked better with the endura bumper than without. Of course you're probably one of these that thought putting a multi-colored GTO sticker and a shaker hood on a '74 Ventura was cool.

Yes. Sorry..I should have specified that. BTW: I showed my nephew your webpage on your '65 as to what a clean text book build up on a vintage Goat should look like. He's got a '68. I narrowly prevented him from putting a sunroof on it!!!

Your preference for the Endura Bumper was noted, but I read your post correctly the first time.
"I think '70 was the last good year for the GTO and only with the Endura Bumper option."
You referred to the "Endura Bumper option" which was never an option but standard equipment from 1968 - 1972.
In 1970, there was no "delete option" so you were wrong on both counts.
In 1968, Pontiac was not sure of the public's acceptance of the revolutionary "Endura Bumper", so they made a delete option available. After the overwhelming acceptance of the new bumper, the "delete option" was "deleted" for the 1969 and subsequent production years.
It appears that it is your intelligence that is in question here.
Your penchant for name calling when your errors are pointed out just makes you look even more foolish.

With this guys penchant for misquoting people, I can see why you wondered...
I mean, to have manufactured a quote of you saying that '65's were ugly.... I can hardly wait for the post where I'm knocking the 1964 GTO....

He may not be too bright, but if you need to stop some one putting in a sunroof, he's your guy!

What part is Chevy and Grand Am and Cavalier? denial is those who know that the new car is 100% than the old one in every way and they just don't want to face that fact.

This car looks like a Cavalier humping a GrandAm. Do your research: It's a Chevy motor. The GM Monaro is a better car than ANY car made 30-40 yrs. ago due to the fact it's a new car in the performance sedan arena. It's just no GT0 and never will be no matter what kind of spin GM puts on it. There is no arguing it's a worthy performance vehicle superior than what one could buy in a similar vehicle 3-4 decades ago. Slapping some badges on it doesn't make it a GTO. It's a Holden Monaro marketed and imported for Pontiac. This will all become all to clear at resale time.

What makes a car GTO? Describe for me what a GTO is in your mind please.
Which one of these cars is a "true" GTO.
One thing I do know is that the 04 GTO adheres to the formula that DeLorean created back in 1964. Midsize, 2door coupe, RWD, big V8. The new GTO hold true to that formula. And in 05 with 400HP the reborn GTO will be the most powerful GTO ever built.
Get use to it boys. The GTO will be around for awhile.

I'd say #2 but looks like a kit car so I'll say #3 and #6.

For starters, a PONTIAC GTO is built and engineered in and for the United States by Americans....

So does a Jensen Interceptor. Could it become a Dodge Charger with a new grille and some stickers, or is it really just a foregn car built for another market?

Yeah the Australian market demands a RWD coupe with a large V8...Bah!!! What would they know...give me a Front Wheel Drive car with heaps of cladding, that's built for the American market.
That's a real muscle car.

Smart enough not to buy a 2004 GM Monaro. If your neighbors' dog leaves a turd in your yard and you go tie a bow around it to make it look it better it's still a turd. Putting a GTO badge on a butt ugly Australian import doesn't make it a GTO no matter how you dress it up.

Why would I try and say that option code 414 was standard equipment when it was a $52.66 additional cost option?
But if you think that the Endura front end was an extra cost option on any GTO, you are just plain wrong.
It was standard equipment from 1968 - 1972, and only in 1968 could you delete if on a regular production order.
Your continued denial of the truth only makes you look more and more foolish.
Maybe you should change your name on this board to whatza GTO because it appears you know very little about them - old or new.

First time posting here, but thought I'd throw in my 2 cents worth.
I emigrated from Engalnd in 1996, so have little knowledge of 60's & 70's muscle cars apart from The Dukes of Hazzard.
I kind of appreciate where the old school guys are coming from with the its-not-a-GTO-and-should-never-be-called-a-GTO, as I owned a Lancia Delta HV Integrale Evo III - best car EVER made BTW - and when Lancia dropped from the world rally circuit, the car was redesigned, mainly to keep up with style. That said, there were a number of different Delta's, from the vase model up to the rally version. To me, it wasn't my Delta though.
I bought a 2004 GTO in October.
I tested all the others in it's 'bracket' - RX8, G35, 350Z, IS300, WRX STi, M3 (used), EVO, etc.
I took over a year with this, drove each car numerous times, finally settling on an Impulse Blue with blue interior that I paid under $29K out of the door.
Does it matter to me that this car doesn't look like a particular car did 30 years ago? No, not in the slightest.
It's a great car for me, for all the reasons previously posted on here.
It is I would imagine, almost impossible to revive a classic car 3 decades on and expect to keep the old faithful happy AND keep modern enough to attract new buyers.
For me, it's so called bland syling is perfect as it's not a cop magnet, yet I've yet to be beaten from the lights or over a distance, and I include a WRX STi, a carrera and an M5 in all that.
Had Pontiac kept the car after 1974(?), and updated it through now, it would have looked very different but, and I'm sorry to say this, Pontiac aren't in it to keep people happy - they're in it to make money.
Buy one if you like it. Don't if you don't.
PS - I love the fact that only three people in my town have got one!

If it doesn't look like a GTO, why is it called a GTO?

Why are the Grand Am, Bonneville, Grand Prixs etc called those names? They don't look (or generally even PERFORM)like their ancestors did.....
I suppose the '04 Trans Am looks a lot better than the GTO?

Why does it have to look the same to be named the same - that's progress. No one is going to buy the same car if it doesn't ever change.
And no-one is going to buy a car today that lo oks like this
