I would pay SLIGHTLY above invoice for the Barbados Blue 6spd car. Otherwise I will wait until dealers want to unload them.

One more sold. Stopped by my dealer today. Just sold the Silver/A4 one today. I believe as Spring gets rolling and more ads start hitting the pavement sales will pick up.

Remember, even though it seems like 2 years since the announcement of the 2004 GTO, it's only really been for sale since late December.

No, I don't think it was ever planned. They are being built in Australia.

RE: US Manufacture

As it turns out, what I recalled about US production was probably more conjecture than planning. I went back into some of the early 2004 GTO info that I had read and found this statement in the 6/03 HPP, page 37:

"The next generation Monaro/GTO, rumored to be based on the same chassis architecture as the Cadillac CTS sometime '05 or so, could receive some bespoke styling, rather than just the new fascias that the '04 model got due to time and production constraints. Maybe by then GTO could be successful enough that it shares a factory with the slow-selling CTS, and you can have your US-built GTO again."

Oh well.

It was rumoured that starting with 2007 production it would be built in the states. Whether or not that is true anymore I don't know.

That's doubtful. The Monaro is building up to a major world-wide export effort for Holden. It seems that they are exapnding production for the long term.

But I thought the reason we were to get only 16,000 or whatever had nothing to do with projected sales, but was because of the UAW? I know I read that on one of the boards, but it may have just been conjecture.

The UAW has been mentioned by GM, but I doubt they have much influence on the new GTO.

I'm sure GM's marketing people came up with a realistic figure (18,000) based on production capacity, market conditions, and expected demand.

Since they are starting export of the Monaro to Europe and the Middle East, it seems they expect the car to be successful everywhere.

Production is limited to 18,000 per year based on an agreement with the UAW. US production is still planned for 2007. GM is planning a Holden type plant where they can assemble different models on the same line. Design of the 2007 will be done in OZ. Due to slow production start there will not be 18,000 2004 GTO's. Rumors are now between 12,000 and 16,000 for 2004.

I was surprised to see that the 04 GTO was already in the country. I have not seen any out here in the north bay area of San Fran. Nor have I seen any advertising for them at all. Barring the test cars in CD,MT, ect. You would have thought they would advertise. Where is Jim Wangers when you need him.....

There has been plenty of TV(NCAA Tourney) and every car mag has at least one ad in it.

Here they are, hot off the press:

The GTO sold 606 units in February. That's up 27% from January.

As I posted before, the GTO continues to sell between the SSR and the XLR, which had 1034 and 320 sales respectively.

Will the GTO make it's estimate of 18,000 units sold in the 2004 MY? If so, it will need to increase sales. At the current rate, sales will only reach about 6600 units. But we can expect there to me an increase in the spring, and a year-end sales drive.

Will the sales rate increase further? The results of the SSR and the XLR suggest that it will. Both cars are still increasing monthly sales after 5 and 6 months respectively.

I have meet with two Pontiac Reps here in Wi in the last two weeks cuz of dealer issues, And I was told by both that there were over 2000 units lost in the 04 production run so less than 16000 total GTO'S will make the U.S.

How exactly were they "lost"?
