just so i dont have to reply to you guys seperate ill do it at once sorry if i forget to reply to someone. yes i know the last f-bodies were made in canada (rumor i heared why they stopped making them was because the lease was up and GM didnt want to renew it) no i wouldnt drive a import but some of them have "nice" features. For example a 04 EVO VIII is all wheel drive turbo from the factory (shoud handle a little bit better) brembo brakes (does your 04 gto have that from the factory)? if you compare 1/4 mile times from magazines it will run faster then the GTO. thats just to name one. yes motorcycles are faster but you cant drive them year around where i live. im not willing to pay $400 a month for insurence (yes $400 A month and i have a clean driving record) or id have one. but im comparing car to car not car to motorcycle. and it depends on what you call "better"? do you call better faster ? theres no other V8 that pontiac makes. only V8's GM is making now in a car is a CTS-V or a vette. dont be suprised when chevy comes out with their coblat (import wanna be) that is a V6(supercharged) if it runs in the ballpark of the 04 GTO. mid 13's isnt hard to do out of a 6 thats why i say mid 13s in a V8 with the GTO (supposed to start the whole muscle car thing) is embarassing. no way in hell they would have made a GTO in the 60's slow. i can understand the smog/gas price thing in the 70's ( even tho it was BS and killed the real muscle cars ) but now? what about the 04 GTO makes it so great? i must have missed it. yeah its a rear wheel drive,V8,dual exhaust, but at least make faster then imports. i think you said it best chump (i didnt misspell that) i wouldnt want to drive a POS import but its faster then a 04 GTO. if it was called anythign else besides a GTO i would be 100% more interested in getting one. but that badge is embarassing to me.

by the way a EVO VIII is around $35,000 also. they don thave to give $3,000-$7,000 incentives for the ricers to buy one either. i havent had the chance or desire to sit in one to see how confortable/roomy they are but im guessing just as much as the GTO if not more. true i dont own a 04 gto (that shoud be obvious) or a EVO VIII (that also should be obvious)

What's an EVO VIII?

In my experience, most ricers aren't the sharpest tools in the shed, so no need for any incentives beyond "The Slow and They're Furious" movie........

" I don't care who you ask. Now that's funny." Larry the Cable Guy. Somewhere on the net there was a poster floating around you could buy where it showed specs on a Tuner vs a Musclecar: "People laugh vs. People drool / 175 ci vs. 175 mph / $3500 paint job vs. $3500 engine / 8 speakers vs. 8 cylinders" / etc. It was very funny and oh so true.

oh i was wrong about the price. its not $35,000. base is $27,000 and change. unlike others i dont challenge you to find a site ill just give it to you and let you read it yourself. sure its a 4 door, with a ugly wing but at a base price of $27,929 thats not bad at all. eslecially a 13.1 1/4 mile time out of a 4 banger. im sure you can spend the &7,000+ in options and have a decent car if thats what youre into.

As I posted before, would you want to drive that thing?

If not, it doesn't matter...

And you better check your pricing on this car - the EVO III base price is $31,274.00. Add the leather interior and the upgraded stereo (still no CD changer) and it balloons up to $34,394.00.

I don't know about you, but I don't want to drive a 4 cylinder whatzit and sound like I've got an overexcited squirrel under the hood....

The only reason this thing can do the 1/4 so fast is it has 4.53 gears and a turbo, which is why the GTO gets better gas mileage despite having all the creature comforts standard and having a V8.

So slowly back away from your fascination over the 4cyl, turbocharged, 4dr, winged, warriors, and let's talk V8 performance here...

As far as it goes, I like the EVO pretty well. It's not the most gorgeous car out there, but in terms of performance it's the real thing. I can admire it for what it is, though if we're talking about AWD turbo 4cyl. cars, I really preferr the WRX STi. Having said that, I'd take one if they'd give it to me. Of course, that wing would be the first thing to go...

The fact some of these imports are butt ugly might explain the GM Monaros popularity with the tuner crowd. The GM Monaro is a logical alternative to the bat winged ricer. My 17 yr. old son said the 04 is the car of choice in his high school for kids who want something to "pimp out". Same side exhaust, jelly bean front end, spoiler, ricer back end and tail light treatments: The tuner crowd was definately the market Lutz was going for. Maybe he should have checked to see what their disposable income was first. The 05 is a progression of that same theme. I mentioned on another forum almost a year ago that the 05 would be offered with a higher spoiler, etc in GMs continuing attempt to cater to the tuner crowd and that is just what has happened. Of course I got blasted with "back your opinion up with fact troll, blah, blah, blah". I wouldn't be surprised if the geniuses at Beavis and LutzHead started offering window graphics and the optional fart can exhaust in the near future. Credit given though to GM in the change of the dual exhaust treatment. ( I know, I know, the GM Monaro has always had true duals...you know what I mean )and some bitchin' new "grown up" colors. The 2005 Cyclone Grey comes to mind. I doubt that would have happened though if there had not been an overwhelming demand for it. GM is catering to these demands out of need not choice.

Very true. Given the poor showing of 1st year sales hopefully GM will be able to correctly target their market and build a car catering to that consumer base.

ok so its the same price for a 04 GTO. until they give $3,500-$7,000 to buy a 04 GTO (how bad is that? next month they might give them away) sounds like youre upset that little 4 banger is faster then your V8. yeah if i had a stroker kit, stall converter,3.73 gears.....for my 69 it would be running 9's/10's easy. but for factory out of the box performance its another story isnt it? 0.95g on a 200 ft skid pad,13.1 in the 1/4, and brembo brakes all from the factory for the EVO VIII all for the same price of the 04 GTO (you have a price tag for the 05 GTO) which car performs better ? i hate to admit it too. (it even has a 6 cd changer)

I'm no racer but those look like fine times for a stock GTO. What do you think a simple plug-n-tune, 90mm throttle body and some better rubber would do for it?

when you comapre the V8 of the GTO and the 4 banger of the EVO VIII youd think the GTO should kill the EVO VIII. what happened to "theres no replacement for displacement"

It's all about horsepower to weight, ratio. The GTO engine in the same weight car would answer your question!

The GTO achieved the numbers with normal aspiration, due to it's displacement.

Put a SC or turbo on the GTO, and do you think that the numbers would even be close?

You are comparing a V-8 RWD Pontiac to a rice burner?
