It's interesting you people in the GM Monaro Glee Club keep referring to the same 2 vehicles produced today that are instantly recognizable for what the manufacturer claims. Therein lies the answer to your question, although it should be painfully obvious. Perhaps the folks at Beavis and LutzHead Inc. could learn something from your repeated references to their competition.

Well, back in the day of the high powered 4 cylinder Mustangs, they built the Mach 1 with a German built, 105 HP, V6 powerplant...

A GTO has always been known as a V8 RWD performance car. It still is.

The Mustang has never been competition for the GTO. It's nothing more than a chick car that occassionally had a motor with some power.

I never said the Mustang was in the same league as the GTO, merely that it and the Vette are frequently used as benchmarks for a 2005 "Musclecar" with instant consumer recognition. However, it would appear the 05 'Stang has a broader consumer appeal in the performance market than the GM Monaro, largely due to Ford putting forth some effort into building something that a loyal consumer base would want. I'm sure in the cavernous halls of GM they would consider that to be market competition.

Mustangs and Corvettes are not muscle cars, never were! I know magazines and every pimple face under 30 refers to them that way, but they aren't. The term 'muscle car' was coined to describe a mid-size coupe with a big car engine. Vettes are 'sport cars', Mustangs and Camaro/Firebirds as well as Javelin and Cuda/Challenger were Pony cars. Pony cars as well as some others such as Vettes with massive horsepwer,ie; Hemi Cuda, Ram Air IV T/A, or ZL-1 Camaros, were called 'supercars'.

My lack of intellect, as you put it, should be phrased as lack of gramatical aptitude, terminology is learned not genetically transferred! By the way, those aren't "apostophies", they are quotation marks! You're correct (one of the few times). The Mustang has NEVER been in the same league as the GTO.

As was I. Manufacturers both foreign and domestic are attempting to capiltalize on that term to sell cars regardless of vehicle, Pontiac included.

Actually Champ, if you could read my posts from a year ago you would probably have said that more often. But I quickly found out that voicing constructive opposition to what GM was calling a 2004 GTO only resulted in being labeled as a troll, old school, or any other infantile name calling void of merit or intelligent debate.

Danny, this is what that GM site said

In the past 50 years, GM has improved the small-block engine to make it both more powerful and more fuel-efficient. Here are the two latest engines, considered the fourth-generation:

The 325-cubic inch (5.3 liter) 5300 Vortec V-8. This engine has a fuel-saving technology called Displacement on Demand (DOD), which uses only four of the engine’s cylinders during normal driving, instead of eight. GM will put the new DOD engine in several sport utility vehicles.

The LS2, an all-aluminum 364-cubic inch (6.0 liter) engine. This powerful engine is found in the 2005 Corvette and produces 400 horsepower. But it still manages to be fuel-efficient: it gets 18 miles per gallon in the city and 28 miles per gallon on the highway.

Find where it says Chevrolet LS1...please. And I couldn't care less about the other sites, they are not GM.
