I think it's clear that the diagnosis is incomplete, or better yet missing information. Wish I was there to go through it.
I doubt the aluminum piece was a root cause of oil pump or bearing failure, or added any aspect to unusual wear patterns. I do not consider the aluminum or any foreign matter a contributor to the cylinder scuffing. Rather, the cylinder scuffing is from the piston-to-wall loading and hot tolerance, and break-in fit(so much for torqueplates), but not from a lube situation. Seems unusual to conclude that any bores need sleeving after scuffing. Please consider using the bores as-is until further notice. I sense a play for sympathy. Seems you imply a spun #5 rod bearing. But you said it got "wiped-out"...perhaps it did not spin. Perhaps the Rod gets inspected for roundness (what kind of Rod?, was it used/tested before?). Try this: #5 gets a new rod bearing, and the crank journal gets a strap-polish. See IT's not so bad. Now, about the Oil Pump: Did the oil pump shaft break?!?!?! NO, then you must go into the block and INSPECT THE CAM BEARINGS. My bet is the cam bearings got wiped and sent debris to the crank bearings. cam bearing. cam bearings cam bearings H.I. Stud

Why were ARP bolts, instead of stockers, used for a water pump application that only sees 15 ft/lbs on the little ones and 30 ft/lbs on the big ones?

HIS: Wrong, on all counts. Don't need sympathy, just money. Trying to educate a few, some seem to have titanium plates that prevent osmosis. Don't need to come down, as I had two guys right there that have been building Pontiacs longer than I've been breathing air or amneotic fluid................cam bearings are all fine. Oil pmup shaft is fine and was checked for warpage, none found. No offense, but this information coming from someone who reuses bearings and doesn't know enough to change both head gaskets when one goes isn't going to cut it. No, they do not. You made that stretch, not me and it was a poor attempt at that.
ARP bolts have a proven reputation for durabilty and I bought the kit to do my entire engine. They were there and I used them. Not that I have to justify anything to you.............but I will still try to educate the poor lost souls out there in wanna-be race land, for all to find humor in. OK, bro?

Since I've been into this Pontiac silliness for 20+ years, I've amassed hundreds of these factory-issued bolts. As such, I'm able to keep the hundreds that are excellent and discard the hundreds that are questionable. |

I don't have the space for buckets of bolts, Scott. When I need one, I just go buy it. I have saved some of the harder to come by bolts, like motor mounts and starter bolts from some of the motors I've parted out, but I don't trust the factory stuff for much anymore. You never know how many times they've been torque/stretched and how long they have left to live! Its more cost/time effective to just start with new parts, in my experience.

How did the aluminum get past the screen.
No Oil pressure at all? And if it was That small how could it do all that damage in that short a time? And get past the oil filter? Why #5, and all the rest look good? And after only three pulls on the Dyno? Hummmmmm. Interesting.
