The GTO achieved the numbers with normal aspiration, due to it's displacement.

Put a SC or turbo on the GTO, and do you think that the numbers would even be close?

You are comparing a V-8 RWD Pontiac to a rice burner? <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

Yeah, what tripower said! ... furthermore, if the tuner crowd wants to talk hp per liter: (hp/L) Pontiac Soltice 2.2L @ 240 hp = 120 hp/L or how about Dodge Spirit R/T 2.2L @ 224 hp = 102 hp/L. What about the cost to get a ricer motor up to the hp a domestic big block offers?: Hot Rod Magazine 1998 500 hp build up: 455 Buick vs Honda VTEC: Cost of Buick to get to 500hp: $3296 US / Honda VTEC to 500 hp: $10,500 US. However if the tuner crowd really wants to argue that displacement means nothing then they could use the North American Model Airplane engine in their beloved riceburners. These engines @ .0065L produce 169hp/L. Appprox. 195 of these engines inside an import would produce 300 hp thereby eliminating the need for a single V8.

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR> It's all about horsepower to weight, ratio <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

Interestingly enough, the weight difference between the two is not that dramatic:
2005 EVO III - 3285 (276 hp)
2004 GTO - 3770 (350 hp)

Not sure on the '05 weight.

Here in Colorado Springs, a local dealer wouldn't let a potential do anything but say 'ooh' and 'ah' about his 04 GTOs while they sat in the showroom with 4 miles on the odo. If you were "serious", you could sit in it and start the engine. Now, I wouldn't test drive one of the 12 sitting on his lot now if he offered me $50.

if 276hp in the EVO VIII will do 13.1 in the 1/4 what will 500hp do ? the 04 GTSlow has 350hp and will do mid 13's (13.3-6 from what ive read). bump it up to 400 hp for 05 and it is low 13's (i read the 05 is supposed to do 13.1). the point im trying to make is that hp numbers arent as important as what that hp will do in the 1/4. wouldnt that make you feel bad lineing up next to a import and losing to it ? and yet you talk about the new GTO like its the best car. the EVO VIII is just 1 exapmle. for $35,000 the GTO better be able to take a import.

I haven't been around for a while and unfortunately it seems that nothing has changed.
The reason I stopped looking in on the forum was because of the rabid negativity from certain quarters towards this great car.
A few days ago I decided to catch up on some of the posts.
Man! I can't believe that you people that still haven't taken the trouble to test drive this brilliant car are still bad mouthing it.
Get out there and try one out and then come back and tell us how it is not the most powerful GTO you have driven.

I have had my GTO for over 8 months now and have yet to have a negative comment from anyone except for people on this forum.
I have lost count of the number of total strangers that have complimented me on the car.
Even my wife would not believe the amount of attention this car gets until I(reluctantly) loaned it to her while her POS Mustang GT convertible was in the shop for more of those Ford 'teething problems".
She had the GTO for two days and she was amazed with the attention that it brings.
From old and young alike the admiration of the car was like nothing she has ever experienced with her Stang.

For all you doubters: Go ahead, try one, make your day!

Remember this post from way back in November?
Wow, I thought the forum was bad then but now after reading other posts over the last week or so, things have deteriorated even further.
Goodbye all you trolls, I am off to pastures new, where the people appreciate what a fine car the new GTO really is.
Too bad we didn't get to see the fraud's pictures!!!
Bye.

If you own an 04 GTO or 05 GTO this board is not for you. I suggest ls1gto.com. Lots of good people and good info.
