Congrats on the purchase and welcome, Sirrotica. Don't let anyone rain on your parade. IMO, $28k doesn't sound like a bad deal at all for an '05. If you are happy with the deal, that's all that matters.

Thanks Verdoro... I never bought a new GTO in the 60 s as I was just 17 in 1969....although I ve owned plenty of used Pontiacs including 3 65 GTO s a 67 a 69 and a 73 all were used cars when I got them ....some used up...LOL.. I currently own a 73 a 76 455 T/A , both 455 s and a 97 LT1 T/A s and I ve never bought a new car in my life...so if I m gonna buy a new car I don t see anything else Pontiac is currently offering that is any better than the GTO.. I m happy with the deal I got and most of the incredible deals in this thread aren t by anyone that actually bought one , just heresay from my brother s buddy said so and so got one for 18 grand etc. etc.

I second this. I paid that for my '04 18 months ago. Anyone who feels that 28k is not a good deal for this car should probably just look at something else. I know I don't have any regrets or feel that I was ripped. In fact, if they get down to 28k around here, I'm getting a second one.

You've got a pretty nice stable of Pontiacs.

Exactly. When I went shopping for my car last November, I went in expecting to find one for 18-20k. Boy, was I wrong. I shopped every dealer within 200 miles for new and used '04s. No one could remotely come close to the prices others online claimed to pay. Even three months later with the '06s on the lots, in my area used '04s are still selling for more than I paid for my new '04. I consider most of these "I got my car for cheap" stories in the same league as the "big one that got away" fishing stories.

Truth hurts uh? If you think you got a good deal then that is all that really matters.

Facts from a Pontiac Dealer, me
2005 6-speed
MSRP 33690
Invoice 31207.93
Hold Back 989.70 3% of MSRP before destination charge
Rebate 2500.00
Net Dealer Price 27718.23
Most Dealers have 1-2.5% advertising(also figured on MSRP before destination charge) that is charged to the Dealer from Pontiac
which is passed on to the purchaser.
2006 6-speed
Exact same pricing other than the rebate. The rebate on a 06 is $500.00.

Yeah sorry but invoice is no deal. Don't get me wrong, its better than over or sticker but with how many of these cars are on Ebay and on dealer lots you should be able to get a better deal than that.
Remember, some guys paid 3 or 5 over sticker! IT's all relative...you've got a goat and that is all that is important!!

what to pay?
I wasn't quoting prices or telling you what is a good deal or what to pay. Just simply giving you guys who want to buy one some real figures to help.

Damn for once I wasn t a day late and a dollar short ... owned it 3 days and it may be worth some money down the road... I just called the guy that sold me the car and he said ...." I shoulda held on to it..." Told me he had a chance to purchase 5 GTO s and a Solstice from another dealer and he s gonna see if the other guy knew about this being the last model year yet ...as he hadn t even heard about it today...I had a gut feeling this may be my last chance to purchase a new GTO and I didn t hesitate and went ahead and bit the bullet...LMAO no one can rain on my parade ...I know a lotta people that were holding off waiting to see if they d retro the 07 models ...this will get those people that have been stradling the fence to act...anyone out there hunting for a bargain on a new one ya better act before all the dealers hear this... Mine hadn t heard it as of today ...BTW 67Tony mine windowed at 34,295 cause it s an auto and there s a $1300.00 gas guzzler tax tacked on by the wonderful people in Washington ...that isn t on the stick cars ...400 H.P. and 20 Mpg...none of my previous GTO s had that ...If I had a wish I d purchase a 65 new but since that ain t ever gonna happen I ll settle for the 40 year later model...I still have plenty of 455 s tucked away that I can play with in my vintage cars I ll never run outta the real Strato Streak V 8 s but I ll have a nice GTO to run down the thruway when I want all the creature comforts that these cars have...BTW I wasn t sold on the new GTO s either when they first came out ...if ya never drove one...take one for a test drive...it s a lotta car for the money...and if the LT1 in my 97 T/A ever gives me any grief ...you can be sure it ll have a pure Pontiac Strato Streak V 8 where the chevy motor presently resides... I love my Pontiac V8 s but this is also an extremely well built car and I m not gonna deprive myself of owning it waiting for Pontiac to start installing SD 455 s in their current cars...it just isn t gonna happen ...

That is a crazy high price. The low price last year at march Madness was 24K-listed in the windows. There is a brand new 06 with 3900 milesw on it and not one mark-I checked it out...in red with red, 6 speed and 17's sitting for $27995. With 06's sitting on the lot unsold, it isnt going to go at that price unless someone hasnt done their homework or succumbs to impulse. For the record, I left 6 GM dealerships furious and angry at foolish sales practices that cost them a sale-6 different times. I got the car I wanted at below invoice, I just had to be tough about it. Believe it or not, right around the corner from my house, a GM dealer is trying to add nearly $4700 in add on full list price( they call it dealer markup) ABOVE the invoice. Then when I told the idiotic salesman that it doesnt get a lot better than full list price, he smirked and said...it gets a lot better for us. I walked out and went looking on the internet after several highly annoying sales attempts where one idiot looked me up and down and said, we dont let just anyone drive our cars. I said "then you must not sell very many of em I was ready to buy today" He shrugged, and walked me. I have pucrhased three brand new GM cars in the last 5 years so this really pissed me off. I cursed him out something fierce and walked off the lot.
I complained bitterly to the sales manager and he couldnt care less either. I got a call from Bunnin in oxnard, and that salesman and I worked out the deal in less than 3 minutes. Hate to say it, but GM couldn't sell a car if it tried. If bunnin hadnt met my needs, and listened to me, I would have said "screw GM let em rot". The sales force is the problem. NOT the cars. They could use redesign, but they are not bad cars. They look like BMW's for gods sake. It makes no difference if the cars are good or not if the sales practices in the bay area are so bad that I have to get on a plane and fly a few hundred miles to be treated like a human being. I dont even wwant to have my cars serviced here after my last visit of being ripped off completely at a dealeship where they didnt even change the oil filter on a $1200 dollar tune up. As much as I like the new GTO, I feel GM is dead. They allow unreal practices to pervade entire market areas, and lie to management and say they cannot sell a car. I bought a 98 WS6 in 98 during the strike, and they marked up the darned thing by 3k over full invoice. I hit the roof, and got the price I wanted but WTF???
I have never been treated as poorly in my life as I was at each and every dealer here in the bay area. I have names, dates, and times too. P{ontiac couldnt care less. anyone want save a lot of hassle? email me and i will give you the lowdown.

BTW...My WIFE considered the BMW M3, but I won that argument!!! I am not going to pay 60K for a car that wont beat the 30 K Holden. One ride in the new GTO took away all her steam.
