I tend to agree..I own 2 red GTOs but w/ Black Interior (and yes Resale Red does help sell car I'm sure but not for an interior, when ext. is already red)..It would have been a mean looking car if ext was black with that red interior, IMHO

Not necessarily jumping in to defend B-J, but the message above seems ill-directed. It's Speed that should be getting the heat. B-J doesn't control the coverage and what makes it tv, Speed does. Then again, I've alway found Speed TV coverage to pretty much suck in general. There are better car programs on Discovery, Learning Channel, and BBC television.

Should probably add, I don't really care one way or the other about the relative bidding (or lack thereof) on the GTOs.... I just want to see them covered as well as the other pieces at the auction. I'd really prefer they just run the auction straight with no commercials.

You make a good point. But it just seems like every time a nice Pontiac is heading to the block they cut to break. Maybe B J should have the shows recorded then air them so you can see every car.

Also what car shows are on BBC? I might have to check them out.

The seller said that he wasn't sure who the new owner was, but he didn't think that it was Greg. I'd be very interested to know if it went to a Pontiac collector, or one of the many individuals at the auction who were acquiring cars for their "used car lots".

Clarification: The car sold for $70K. The Buyer paid 10% for $77K. I don't believe Greg bought it, but I could be wrong. There is money to be maid off this car. I think it's worth as little as $95K and as much as $125K TODAY, RIGHT NOW. You can second guess which venue to sell at all day long and it's nothing but speculation. I've got a buddy with a '67 Comet 427 R code car at Russo & Stelle Saturday. It'll be an interesting sale. It's perfect and Raven Black with red interior. Should be $150K minimum. But maybe the market is soft. I saw a lot of nice cars sell for low dollars at BJ. And some overpriced. That's the way it is!
Back to the GTO, I wouldn't have sold it this year had I not needed to. Plan was to own for two years were I (in my opinion) the RAIV's will really excell in price. Yes, I bought it to sell it, just not now. Yes, I am receiving med bills on surgery of one of my triplets. Major inner ear problems that once were thought to be minor. Blackbird...**** you and your attitude. Someday you will have a family member with problems and don't expect any sympathy from those around you for your display of callousnous. You started this crap with your prayer I loose my ass on this car. Well, your prayers are answered. I believe good things happen to those that treat others well and bad things happen to those that wish ill on others. To the rest of the Pontiac guys here, it was mostly a good experience and thanks for your help when I asked. I can say I owned a great one such as this and will always have found memories of it.
As to why the car never made it to the track, there were several issues. First, until recently it was not capable of making a succesful run (that is, not an embarrasing run). That was a combination of overheating, suspension and carburation. Not a negative against Ronb / Brian. The carb was not right and I knew that upon purchase. I received a -270 Q-Jet from Ron as promised which I used on a trade for a correct date code -273. With the value of the -270 & the 273 and restoration by Ruggles, I had almost $4K into a carb. The radiator was beyond repair and I thought it was the water pump diverter, not the radiator. Finally fixed that problem and it was capable of driving without melting. The rear springs were replaced with a used set from Mr. Bruno. That took care of wheel-hop which was so bad the exhaust was slamming gainst the body. So all that was taken care of. Problem two: the car was so damn nice, I couldn't take it to the track. The return road of our tracks have a lot of loose gravel. I've spent almost $400 fixing rock chips on the GTO lower rockers, and that's just from driving around my neighborhood. I wasn't afraid of anything at the track (engine / trans / rear are great) except rocks.
Finally, the car was placed on ebay @ $275K only to create hype. Some just didn't get it, some (Gregg did). There was over 10,000 hits on that ad. I've learned you don't want a car to stall on ebay and then show up at an auction. The hens on the block will tell everybody " that car didn't go past X on ebay". Some of those that have offered advice on selling the car probably have very little auction experience. Maybe they do. But it was my car and mine alone. I will say this, next time I go to BJ it won't be on a Wednesday. You take what they give you or you walk. Next time I will walk. But since I needed to sell it, I thought BJ would bring the most. And the only reason I got the GTO in was I had a '71 Charger R/T already in. And that was also a joke. I was on stage when Speed Channel went live. When they go live, they want to start with a new car. I had only 2 minutes 12-15 seconds on the block and was literally pushed off to make way for that VW THING. I was lot 405 and was supposed to be the lead in for Speed but the schedule was off. So, thinking I would do well with the GTO, I bought the Charger back. Had I known the GTO would have done so poorly, I would have dumped the Charger at a loss and bought the GTO back. But I couldn't do it with two cars. And since I didn't have a crystal ball, you make your choices and you have to live with them. The $70K price on that GTO still blows me away. And no, I have no reason to believe red / red was a problem. Somebody got one helluva deal. All I heard all week was it should be over $100K. A few stated $200K. But speculators are not bidders. I wish it was Gregg that won but my wife said it was somebody else.
Now when I get my finances back in order, I sure would like a '69 FB with a RAIV...!

Thats to bad. I think your car would have brought more on ebay. Should have sold for 80 to 95k. Someone got a nice car for good money. I though about taking my Sd t/a or my Ra4 t/a there and I'm glad I did not. I think that car would have brought a lot more money on Fri or Sat. A friend of mine took his Corvete to BJ last year. Because his car was a Chevy, he did very well (80,000 for a 62 vette) It was more money than he was expecting. After his car went through, he left the grounds for
a drink at a neighboring water hole. The stools at the bar were loaded with
suicidally depressed people that sold their very nice cars for the price they had in their paint jobs. One guy was in need of serious psychological
couseling. No-one should have to drive their car across an auction block and
pay huge commissions with no reserve safety net. This no reserve concept
was dreamt up by BJ in order to make them billionaires. My advice to
everyone wanting to take their car to an auction is to stay away from BJ.
Mecum will do you right and there is a safety net if the right bidders don't
happen to be there on a Wednesday. Please don't buy into Craig Jackson's
hype......he is there solely to fleece you. The BJ auction reminds me of the "PINKS"
TV show on Speed Channel, where you lose the race and lose your ride. You would
think that no one in his right mind would take such a gamble with his car, but people
line up to go on the show like lambs to the slaughter.

After watching the BJ auction the last couple years I knew this car would not sell for some stupid price. It actually sold for about what I thought it would. I figured $75K and added 20% for the resale red color and it being on a national stage. Even that could not help it. The BJ people sell what they own and throw in a few others. Their own cars are rising in value a bunch as they hype/sell cars like theirs. Craig is the Chevy/Mopar guy and Steve is the Mustang guy. There are no Pontiac/Olds/Buick guys there. I think they must be buying up VW's now! So I was not surprised at the outcome. So for you slow people the car is not a Judge and its not numbers matching. Thats not a bad thing just reality. If the car had been listed on Ebay at a realistic price it surely would have sold for a profit. But when you get greedy you usually get burned. Jim

where does it say recently in an add or a post that the car was not numbers matching.....I'm one of the slow people I guess? The car brought within 10% of what it is worth, maybe less than 10. Numbers matching is the only way to go for appreciating assets, but that's a whole new can of worms,lets not go there. It's a blessing and a curse our beloved PHS, and protect-o-plates...DW

I took Jimwankers post to read that he bought cars back in the day for $2500.00 and bought them to drive/enjoy, not as an investment. But I can see how you interpreted his statement and maybe my interpretation is wrong.

It was a red '67. They also missed a '64 GTO earlier in the broadcast, it was listed in the "last 3 cars" along the bottom of the screen. Caused me to write another nasty email.

To me, the red interior is the best feature on the car. If it had a black interior, it would look just like every other red 69 GTO. Parchment would be ok, but Red on red is what got my attention.

I've got to say you are a great sport for getting on here and giving us the full deets after taking some abuse from the peanut gallery. I, too, wish you would have got more even though uber-pricing means I am likely forever priced out of the RAM AIR IV market.
Once these cars start going into six figures and costing more than my house, the become nothing more than a pipe dream. But if I owned one, I wouldn't mind seeing $150,000 price tags.
So, yes, I am one of those who will rail against the speculators who throw this hobby into a bifercated world: Those with money who treat them as trophies and investments vs. those of us who wrench on ponchos because we love 'em.
I am torn when looking at the prices the Pontiacs are bringing at BJ. On one hand I like to see the prices kept reasonable, so that I can think of buying a Ram Air I '67 GTO for a reasonable price one day. On the other, the brand loyalty in me wants to see the cars get more respect than the POS chebbies, mopars, et al.
But then I see these prices, and laugh.
My '69 Executive with low miles and 360HP 428 worth only $3K is twice the car some of these mopars. I would have no fear lining up against a 383 Dodge at the stoplight any day of the week. If they want to overpay for their junk, let 'em.
We can still enjoy the good ones.
